Responsibilities The Team Lead will completes the registration of patients at bedside and/or at the registration areas assuring appropriate departmental policies and procedures are followed. Interacts with patients, family, physicians, nurses, managers and other staff; and handles confidential patient information. This position will be mainly responsible for the pre-authorization, insurance verification and calculation of patient portion prior to a patient's testing or procedure at OHH and/or its clinics. Team member will be working with their unit to obtain pre-auth for 100+ physicians. The team member may be in direct contact with physicians, nurses and patients as well as insurance companies and their clerical or clinical staff. Team member is responsible for communicating any potential issues surrounding pre-authorization or other pre-arrival requirements to physicians and their teams as well as others involved in the patient's care. It is imperative that the team member has excellent organizational skills and can manage time well. Attention to detail is a must as all actions taken on an account must be clearly documented and accurate. Candidates should be proficient in computer use as most work is technology based. They will utilize applications such as Outlook, Microsoft Office, various payer websites and electronic health record applications. Team member is expected to be able to prioritize tasks on a daily basis, adapt to new and changing situations, problem solve, research, analyze and make independent decisions. They handle patient confidential information and will adhere to all HIPAA expectations. The team lead is responsible for auditing and reporting quality and productivity measures to the Pre Auth Manager/Director. They will help organize, train and assist new hires and other team members in their roles. Answer and process all telephone calls at the console; monitor all alarms, security systems and execute disaster and emergency protocols; update manuals, call lists and directories; and train new personnel. Makes decisions concerning notification of administrative personnel, staff and employees in response to situations, which pertain to health, safety and business interest of the hospital. Qualifications Education: High school graduate or equivalent required. Working Knowledge: Windows based operating systems preferred. Professional verbal and written communication skills. Medical terminology and medical insurance knowledge preferred. Experience: One (1) to three (3) years of clerical experience required, preferably in a medical setting. Previous PBX experience preferred. Minimum of 50 wpm. Candidate should have at least one (1) year of job related experience or currently work in the Health Care field. Must have solid written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of Insurance Eligibility & Benefits, Prior Authorizations, Insurance Payers and their respective websites is highly sought after. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology or medical terminology will be helpful in this position. Good investigative skills and telephone techniques are needed.
