Duties and Responsibilities
Biostatistician/ Data Analyst
Position Overview:
We have an immediate opening for a Biostatistician position in Dr. Fares Qeadan's research team in the Public Health Sciences Department within the Parkinson School of Health Sciences and Public Health. We are seeking a highly experienced Biostatistician proficient in SAS and R to help lead and support our research team. The Biostatistician will play a major role in supporting study design, data management, quality assurance, and statistical analysis across a range of public health research projects. This role will involve overseeing large datasets, discerning complex patterns, and generating actionable insights that contribute to advancing our research objectives. The candidate will also mentor junior analysts and participate in high-level research projects. In addition to data analysis, the Biostatistician will contribute to manuscript and grant writing, and foster collaboration with a multidisciplinary research team and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Data Management, Analysis & Interpretation:

  • Manage and lead the analysis of complex datasets, including those from complex survey design data and ecological data, using advanced statistical techniques in SAS and R.
  • Oversee data management processes to ensure accuracy and integrity of datasets, enabling high-quality research outputs.
  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in large datasets to generate actionable insights for public health research.


2. Study Design Support:

  • Provide guidance on study design, including randomization, sample size determination, and power analysis.
  • Ensure that study protocols are methodologically sound and align with best practices.

3. Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with internal research teams and external partners to support data analysis, study design, and project development.
  • Communicate complex statistical insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.

4. Strategy Development & Implementation:

  • Develop and refine high-level strategies for data analysis that align with research goals.
  • Oversee the implementation of these strategies to ensure research objectives are met.

5. Communication, Manuscript & Grant Writing:

  • Lead the preparation, review, and refinement of manuscripts for publication based on research findings.
  • Participate in grant writing, including drafting proposals, preparing budgets, and supporting justifications for funding applications.

6. Continuous Learning & Professional Development:
  • Mentor junior analysts and incorporate new statistical techniques and tools to enhance the quality of data analysis and interpretation.
Required Computer Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in statistical software such as R, SAS, STATA, and/or SPSS.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with data management tools and applications.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
Masters Degree in Biostatistics required; PhD Preferred
Required: 3-5 years of previous job-related experience
Preferred: 6-10 years of previous job-related experience
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess high adaptability, strong interpersonal skills, and be comfortable interacting with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Education: Master's degree is required (a Ph.D. will be a distinct advantage) in biostatistics, statistics, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in biostatistics.
  • Demonstrable experience in data analysis and interpretation with proficiency in statistical software, especially SAS and R.
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) data analysis is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken, with the ability to follow instructions, complete tasks on time, and handle confidential information.
  • Aptitude for manuscript and grant writing.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and function collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
  • Experience in mentoring junior researchers and students is a plus.
  • Proven ability to organize workflows, plan and coordinate multiple projects, and compile comprehensive reports and presentations.

Certificates/Credentials/Licenses
MS degree in statistics, biostatistics, or a related field
Computer Skills
Candidates must have demonstrable experience in data analysis and interpretation with proficiency in statistical software, especially SAS and R.
