Our Cooperative Education Department is seeking part-time faculty to facilitate career-related learning activities in and out of the classroom.

Beyond the required education and experience instructors must have a passion for what they teach, and have teaching styles that support student success. Instructors are responsible for following Division and College procedures in support of teaching and learning.

The Cooperative Education Department is part of the Division of Workforce Development and provides high-quality, academic credit-bearing educational internship experiences to students in a wide variety of settings. The ideal candidate for this instructional position will bring innovative and participatory leadership to the College and the Cooperative Education Department. The ideal candidate will be able to facilitate meaningful, career-related work experiences for students and design/teach learning activities in and out of the classroom. The ideal candidate will thrive both independently and as a collaborative team member. As the teacher of record, the ideal candidate will function at the highest professional level, representing the College in the community and in the classroom.


The Position
Faculty members in the Cooperative Education Department facilitate for students on-the-job learning experiences related to the student's area of study or career goals. Learning sites are primarily in the local community but may also be throughout the state and Northwest Region. This position is responsible for working with students in the Arts Division. Co-op faculty identify learning sites, assist students with resume and interview preparation, monitor student learning at work sites, evaluate student learning and assign term grades.

Required QUALIFICATIONS


Required Education:

  • Associate of Applied Sciences in Media Arts or related field and professional experience in an Arts related field.
  • A current and valid Oregon's driver's license, or equivalent

Required Experience:

  • Two (2) years of combined experience in K-12 or Post Secondary teaching, corporate/professional training, job site development, coordination and development of work-based learning programs, job development, career or job search planning and advising, implementation of interagency agreements, marketing and promotion of work-based learning program


Or
  • Two (2) years of relevant work experience in an Arts-related field.

Position Purpose:
This position works with business, industry and the public sector to develop and coordinate work-based learning opportunities for students; prepares, teaches, monitors, supports, and evaluates students engaged in on-the-job learning for college credit in both career technical and transfer disciplines.
Essential Functions:
Instruction

  • Provide high-quality instruction in the varied learning environments, such as in person, online, and hybrid formats.
  • Incorporate current technology, appropriate software applications, appropriate pedagogies, and best practices in instructional delivery.
  • Maintain currency in discipline, innovation in teaching pedagogies, and instructional technologies.
  • Provide students with continuous, timely, and relevant feedback regarding their performance in coursework; including prompt grading of all coursework and assessments.
  • Confer with students on course materials, coursework, and assessments.
  • Evaluate student achievement of clearly identified learning outcomes, consistent with core ability outcomes.


Student Support Services

  • Mentor students.
  • Engage students and encourage retention and persistence.
  • Assist students from diverse backgrounds, disabilities, or other special learning situations to fulfill a wide variety of academic goals.
  • Assist students in accessing various campus support services, such as academic advising, counseling, tutoring, library services, accessible resources, et cetera.
  • Actively support and participate in the development and implementation of cultural competency within the division and college; work to promote the recruitment and retention of a diverse staff and student body.
  • Engage in meaningful student evaluation of courses.
  • Collaborate and partner with student support services, including academic advisors, counselors, tutors, and other student services staff to improve student engagement, persistence, and success.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Comply with College policies and procedures, including accountability for leave time, timesheet completion, release time, textbook ordering, and related functions.
  • Participate in faculty performance evaluation processes.
  • Maintain and post office hours in alignment with College expectations.
  • Maintain physical campus presence for instruction and daily needs of students, division, college, and community, as specified in the College Operations Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain requirements for student records, attendance, grades, outcomes assessment, program review, and/or other documentation.

Online Teaching and Student Support

  • Engage within the online course environment to ensure Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI).
  • Monitor student progress and provide reasonable coaching and assistance to struggling students towards success.
  • Review and grade all work submitted by students and provide timely and substantive feedback
  • Provide timely responses to student inquiries.
  • Ensure that all materials created comply with College Policies and Procedures for technology and accessibility, and applicable accessibility laws.
  • Use effective strategies for teaching online.

Cooperative Education Coordinator Essential Functions

  • Facilitate individualized learning experiences in professional settings, including creation, development, revision, and assessment of appropriate career goals and learning objectives consistent with Cooperative Education best practices.
  • Teach job search and application/career preparation and job retention skills through one-on-one interaction, seminars, and/or via small group settings.
  • Select and develop discipline-related internship opportunities in a variety of fields that meet the educational objectives of the college as well as federal and state legal and safety requirements.
  • Establish criteria and procedures for assessing student learning including observation of students at learning sites and providing necessary feedback to students regarding their performance.
  • Assess learning outcomes, using appropriate assessment tools and strategies.
  • Maintain records of student learning, evaluate progress, and assign course grades based on course assignments and site supervisor evaluation.
  • Complete all work experience paperwork in a timely fashion, following all departmental procedures.
  • Promote and market cooperative education internships and seminars to students, faculty, administration, employers and the community.
  • Faculty with teaching duties are responsible for evaluating student achievement, of clearly identified learning outcomes, consistent with core ability outcomes; meet accreditation requirements.

Supervision Statement:
The Dean of Workforce Development is the supervisor for this coordinator position. The dean will provide guidance and direction to the coordinator regarding responsibilities, including program oversight and authority.
Faculty report to a department or division dean, and perform instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies, and procedures of the college.
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
This position requires that an employee be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time during transit to and from site visits. Ability to drive a car. Must have reliable vehicle for travel between college and work sites. Perform cognitive and psychometric work for more than six (6) hours a day. Work may require transporting materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Work Safely.
