ASSISTANT IT MANAGER

FLINT, MI - PLANT

The IT Specialist II will be responsible to support the Plant IT Manager to coordinate and oversee all information technology activities in a JIT environment. Incumbents in this classification install computer systems, ensure that backup systems operate effectively, buy hardware and software, develop the IT infrastructure, and perform administrative and supervisory duties in coordination with overall management of information/communication services.

The Role

Your work will include, but not be limited to:



  • Assigns and prioritizes work to IT Specialist I based on workload and shift
  • Support IT engineers shift covering vacations or absence
  • Serves as System Administrator in the absence of the IT Manager
  • Maintains MES system (LPS) on part number updates or request support for changes
  • Create purchasing requisition of IT equipment
  • Schedules upgrades and security backups of hardware and software system and disaster recovery operations, ensuring effectiveness on all IT systems
  • Support IT Manager to ensure total compliance of software licensing laws, approves secure access to network for remote users and ensures the security of data
  • Mentor and train new IT support staff
  • Create, maintain, and delete AS400 users as needed
  • Maintain and administer computer network and related computing environments including computer hardware, system hardware, application software, and all configurations
  • Monitor the performance of computer systems and networks, and to coordinate computer network access and use
  • Performs routine network startup and shutdown procedures and maintains control records
  • Responds to help desk requests for difficult and complex issues involving information technology services, needs, or problems
  • Assist in managing crisis situations, which may involve complex technical hardware or software problem at any given time
  • Consults with vendor or corporate representatives to define equipment or service needs
  • Monitors IT operations and complaints to identify and evaluate the effectiveness of operations and identifies problems that need to be addressed
  • Work with Active Directory, user accounts, groups, and privileges, maintain events and logs
  • Provide technical support to production, quality, maintenance, shipping, and other departments as needed
  • Complete other tasks as assigned
  • Recommends changes to improve systems and network configurations and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes
  • Assist in performing SOX monitoring and all IT Audits




Your Qualifications



  • Four-year college degree in Information Technology field and/or related experience
  • Basic operation knowledge of AS400
  • Hardware and Network Troubleshooting skills
  • Manufacturing industry experience preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to adapt to a fast-paced environment and to multi-task
  • Ability to work outside of standard business hours both onsite and on call
  • Ability to work independently and/or team-oriented environment
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Must be willing to work extended periods of time or varying shift hours.
