Overview

Dr. Micah Skeens Research Program

We are inviting applications for a funded postdoctoral scholar to join Dr. Micah Skeens' team at Nationwide Children's Hospital and The Ohio State University. There is an opportunity for additional funding via T32 Cancer Control mechanism. Our lab is devoted to investigating the psychosocial and biobehavioral outcomes of children facing cancer and undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplants. Our mission extends beyond research; we strive to develop innovative digital health interventions, with a specific focus on underrepresented and vulnerable populations. We are committed to addressing the unique needs of diverse communities, including those who speak different languages and reside in rural and Appalachian areas.

In this position, with guidance from Dr. Skeens, you will be responsible for leading an independent project that addresses our shared interests and aligns with your career goals. Your responsibilities will also include support of existing lab projects, including overseeing data analysis and dissemination, and mentoring and training junior scholars, and grant writing.

Responsibilities

What Will You Be Doing?

    Designing and conducting studies as part of a collaborative team of researchers and clinician-scientists
  • Collecting data, maintaining study records and meeting regulatory requirements
  • Critically evaluating and interpreting data through advanced quantitative analysis and determining next steps
  • Mentoring and training staff and students
  • Writing and publishing scientific material, including manuscripts
  • Presenting research at conferences
  • Contributing to grant submissions for external funding
  • Collaborating with program manager and research scientist to assist with operational development activities.
  • Collaborating with other researchers at Nationwide Children's Hospital, Ohio State University, nationally, and internationally


Qualifications

What Are We Looking For?

To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess these qualifications and experience:

  • PhD in psychology, nursing, or a related field
  • Desire to pursue a career in clinical research
  • Technical skills related to behavioral sciences research, including strong quantitative and qualitative skills. Ability to use SPSS,R or Mplus desired
  • Ability to work independently on projects
  • Strong proficiency in scientific writing
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to train and mentor staff and students
