Summit Credit Union is looking for a Small Business Administration (SBA) Loan Specialist to join our team! Essential Functions

  • Document gathering for new SBA loan requests.

    • Work with Business Relationship Managers to obtain documents, including but not limited to financial statements.
    • Order due diligence work, including but not limited to background checks, industry data CAIVRS, and corporate status checks.
    • Collaborate with Business Relationship Managers and SBA underwriting team to get package in the pipeline and set timelines.


  • Manage post-closing loan file.

    • After the loan has been executed, prepare the loan file and save all documents using the standard SBA 10-tab format.
    • Follow up on any missing or incomplete documents and set up ticklers.
    • Monitor sold SBA loan payoffs and adhere to sold loan payoff reporting procedures
    • Prepare the monthly SBA 1502 report; obtain approval to submit and send the report in the required timeframe.
    • Review edits with leadership and obtain guidance on corrections; submit edits.
    • Support SBA experts on matters related to underwriting, originating, and servicing SBA, WHEDA, and USDA loans.
    • Stay up to date on current lending and credit practices, regulations, policies and procedures, assist in educating new and existing processors and analysts.
    • Assist in facilitating the packaging of all SBA Loan products, WHEDA facilities, USDA FSA and Rural Development Loans.
    • Provide assistance during SBA and other guaranteed program audits and exams.


  • Member Service

    • Identify opportunities to provide additional guidance or information to business members through the underwriting process; share insights with the assigned Business Relationship Manager.
    • Consistently meet or exceed established turnaround times for completing analysis of new loans and loans being set up for renewal.
    • Respond to staff and member inquiries received by phone or email, both directly and through department help line.


  • Act as a resource for other areas of Credit Union

    • Directly engage with members, as needed, regarding Business Lending and SBA programs.




Job Specifications

  • Associate degree in general business or a related field or equivalent work
  • Three or more years of experience in a financial institution.
  • Experience with business banking, including within the small business sector is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of SBA, WHEDA and USDA lending and related services.
  • Knowledgeable of laws and regulations that govern lending.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide support and direction to others.
  • A high level of initiative, thoroughness, accuracy and organizational skills required.
  • Professional, well developed interpersonal and communication skills essential for interacting with credit union staff and members.
  • In-depth mathematical skills required (calculations and concepts involving decimals, percentages, fractions, dividend, interest, payoff and equity calculations etc.).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and intermediate knowledge of Excel.
