Summary: The Senior Director, Business and Corporate Development will be an integral part of our Business and Corporate Development team. Their primary focus will be structuring, negotiating, and executing transactions. They also will lead cross-functional deal teams that bring innovative non-opioid pain relief into Pacira's growing portfolio, maximize the value of existing assets, and support other corporate initiatives. The successful candidate will have a background in Business Development and negotiation, with a deal sheet demonstrating the ability to lead a deal to completion.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by an individual assigned to this job. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Create business cases and deal structures that support Pacira's corporate, commercial, development and manufacturing strategies
  • Craft term sheets that address core transaction issues and align with internal management, diligence finding, and internal subject matter experts
  • Run deal processes from diligence to term sheet and final agreement documents, including leading the negotiation team and ensuring internal visibility, input, and alignment
  • Organize deal terms and management reviews and provide well-considered recommendations in support of transactions, including clear communication of risks and appropriate management and mitigation initiatives
  • Develop an understanding of Pacira's portfolio needs and business processes by building relationships with internal stakeholders - including in research, process development, clinical regulatory, marketing, portfolio, and finance
  • Function as an ambassador for Pacira at external meetings, conferences, and seminars, to access new opportunities and build and expand external network
  • Mentor and provide feedback, support, and assistance to other colleagues on transactions-related matters

Education and Experience:

  • MBA, JD, or an advanced degree in a discipline related to Business Development for biopharma (MS, MD, PhD)
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in biotech or pharmaceutical industry, with at least 5 of those years in Business Development or a partnering-related role
  • Preferred background in pain management or related area (such as neurology, inflammation, or orthopedics)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Exceptional analytical and communication skills, including the ability to understand and, where necessary, to simplify complex topics
  • Strong project management skills including the ability to organize people and information, to create a plan of action, to set priorities, meet deadlines and measure progress
  • Excellent oral and written English communications skills, including demonstrated ability to present to senior leadership
  • Solid financial and business acumen, including the ability to create valuation models and to understand market forces
  • Demonstrated ability to understand risk, gating, and portfolio value over time
  • Understanding of regulatory environment and drug development processes
  • Experience in drafting term sheets and negotiating transactions, including in high-stakes and complex transactions, as evidenced by a deal sheet in the pharmaceutical or device industries
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

For San Francisco Only:
The base pay range for this role is $209,500 per year to $288,000 per year.
The range is what we reasonably expect to pay for this role. The range considers a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: geographic markets, business or organizational needs, skill sets, experience, training, licensure, and certifications.
