Job Description

Position Overview:

This is an ARP R&D role that is responsible for designing prototype blow molds, associated components, and optimizing for manufacturing efficiency. Responsibilities also include shelling models for 3D printing, providing mechanical design solutions for mold repairs/revisions and designing various fixtures and components. This position operates in a team environment, working together with Mold and 3D Model personnel to support Container Development, Innovation, Pilot Operations and Testing.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Designs prototype blow molds using CAD software while establishing and practicing appropriate design standards.
  • Understands mold manufacturing and works with peers to ensure mold designs are optimized for manufacturing efficiency and fitment in designated equipment platforms.
  • Shares and confirms designs with stakeholders prior to manufacturing.
  • Understands 3D printing and able to shell models for print.
  • Designs various fixtures and components for either machining or 3D printing.
  • May also design other tooling such as injection molds and related components.
  • Understands project scope and collaborates with cross functional team members to determine requirements to produce products on time, correct the first time, and within budget.
  • Utilizes Product Lifecyle Management (PLM) software and other tools to manage workflow, schedule, and capture key metrics.
  • Publishes work and maintains database of design documents and essential information.
  • Seeks out, recommends, and leads implementation of new methods, software, and engineering tools to improve workflow and ease of doing business.
  • Applies practical experience and technical expertise to understand variable situations and guide thinking about ways to address those situations.
  • Knows the business well enough to understand overall needs and predict future needs.
  • Reviews portions of the work of peers and provides technical consultation.
  • Receives limited general direction and effectively provides routine status updates.
  • Selects appropriate work procedures and applies creative and constructive thinking to achieve results.
  • Makes own decisions regarding how to approach specific work assignments.
  • Seeks feedback and corrects own performance.
  • Exhibits willingness to learn as well as teach/coach others.
  • Coordinates corrective action plans, including design reviews and procedural improvements.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with vendors and other external partners.
  • Understands, practices, and prioritizes safety rules and guidelines in accordance with Amcor's safety programs and initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in mechanical design.
  • Proficient with CAM and CAD (Catia) software.
  • Knowledge of injection molding and stretch blow molding machinery and plastics processing.
  • Knowledge of CNC equipment and related machining processes.
  • Knowledge of 3D printing.
  • Ability to work in a challenging environment balancing execution with engineering discipline.
  • Capable of developing new concepts for mechanical designs, procedures, and machining with proven ability to reduce concepts to practice.
  • Ability to communicate with peers and stakeholders in everyday relationships.
  • Traditional computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Travel 5%
