POSITION OVERVIEW and MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Full Time; 40 hours per week
  • Responsibility for ICU, IMCU, Stroke units.
  • Master's Level Degree in Nursing or another applicable field required. Doctoral Degree Preferred.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support required for Intermediate Care and Critical care units. BLS required.
  • Must be certified at time of hire in specialty area of department assigned or CNL or NPD Specialist Certification.
  • Nursing Professional Development certification must be obtained within 3 years of hire and must be maintained thereafter.
  • RN (Registered Nurse) multistate license or Virginia state license in good standing
  • 3 years of Registered Nurse (RN) experience

In this role you will:

  • Promote professional development application of nursing clinical expertise in specified patient populations.
  • Serve as an expert clinician, consistently serving as a clinical resource to staff.
  • Mentor and develop staff from beginner to expert status.
  • Critically analyze care delivered in identified service area against evidence-based practice standards and seek ways to improve outcomes.
  • Be accountable for defined aspects of staff development, continuing education, and professional development of nursing staff.
  • Lead, facilitate, and/or participate in interprofessional quality initiatives, implementing evidence-based nursing practices, shared decision making, and other educational plans and activities.

Job Summary

The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Specialist promotes professional development application of nursing clinical expertise in specified patient populations.
