HYUNDAI AMERICA TECHNICAL CENTER, INC. (HATCI) is currently looking for a Counsel at its Superior Township, MI location to perform the following duties: An attorney who is an excellent communicator, team player, detail-oriented, willing to learn, self-motivated, confident, and interested in helping create a happy, healthy, and productive work environment on the Legal Team. The ideal candidate must possess planning and organizational skills, the ability to adapt to changing priorities, be deadline-driven, have sound judgment and decision-making skills, be able to effectively handle sensitive and confidential information, work well under pressure and be a multitasker. This Counsel role is a wonderful opportunity to work with a diverse group of highly driven team members. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Commercial - Work with business units, purchasing, and commercial legal team members to ensure that all contracts have proper provisions regarding intellectual property, cybersecurity, privacy, and any other technical aspects.
- Privacy - Work with internal stakeholders to ensure that any activities and projects consider and abide by privacy laws and regulations; support ongoing compliance with changing regulatory aspects of data collection and use, privacy disclosures and transparency, and related issues; and assist with the development, implementation, and management of compliance and risk management strategies relating to global data privacy and protection laws and regulations.
- Cybersecurity - Work with internal stakeholders and information technology to ensure that all activities meet all cybersecurity laws and regulations in addition to meeting Hyundai's global standards; support ongoing compliance with changing regulatory aspects of data protection, IT security, and data governance; and assist with the development, implementation, and management of compliance and risk management strategies relating to cybersecurity laws and regulations.
- Export Compliance - Work closely with the engineering teams to perform export compliance activities including classifying projects, documenting exceptions, applying for licenses; provide legal guidance and support for internal teams on matters related to export controls, sanctions, customs compliance, and other trade regulations; analyze and interpret new laws and regulations and assist in devising compliance methods that meet business goals and objectives; and improving the process where appropriate.
- Miscellaneous - Any overflow work management assigns or during his/her absence.
What you will need:
- The ability to understand and consider business objectives in a legal function.
- Demonstrate strict attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness in work.
- Possess prompt responsiveness to internal client requests with the ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and be self-motivated.
- Willingness to work in a team-based environment with collaboration among co-workers.
- Ability to organize and prioritize an ever-changing workload.
- Proficient with Computer and especially Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).
Required Experience:
- Bachelor degree in a STEM discipline and Juris Doctor degree, admitted to the Michigan Bar
- Two to Five Years' experience as an attorney
- Candidates applying for positions with Hyundai must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.
- Valid Driver's License and Satisfactory Driving Record
