Position description

MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF SLEEP PROGRAM

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN FRANCISCO

The Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep Medicine is seeking a board certified/board eligible Pulmonologist and Sleep Medicine Physician for a full-time faculty position as the Medical Director of the Sleep Program at UCSF. The candidate must have completed training in both Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine and is expected to have met the requirements for appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor at UCSF. The successful candidate will be expected to

* Oversee the adult Sleep Medicine program within the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep Medicine, including both the ambulatory sleep program and the sleep lab

* Work closely with the practice managers to optimize the patient and provider experience and to develop optimal staffing models and to set provider expectations

* Manage referrals to the program to optimize patient care and evaluation

* Implement and enhance provider training and support pertaining to the optimization of the use of the Electronic Health Record, Billing, Coding and Documentation for the Sleep Medicine program

* Actively participate in continuous quality improvement processes and data analyses that provide guidance for short and long-term programmatic goals and result in the achievement of measurable outcomes

* Participate in selection of new equipment and prepare reports as required for obtaining new equipment

* Assure compliance with regulatory agencies and accreditation through American Academy of Sleep Medicine

* Collaborate with the Sleep Fellowship Program Director and Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Director to optimize the education of fellows

* Supervise and precept sleep and pulmonary fellows during clinical activities

Requirements:

* Board certified/board eligible in both Pulmonary Medicine and Sleep Medicine.

* Respected clinical physician (MD or DO) with outstanding professional credibility and personal integrity

Preferred/Desirable Qualifications (optional)

a) Demonstrated ability to foster teamwork and collaborative problem-solving using an analytical and systematic approach. Demonstrated commitment to patient satisfaction.

b) Excellent communication skills.

c) Ability to provide leadership to physicians and other health care professionals.

d) Demonstrated interest in resident/student education.

e) Experience in research and/or clinical improvement methodologies.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary range for this position is $127,000-$333,700. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.

For positions that are 50% effort or less:

See Table 2 for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $90,700-$238,300.
