Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Specialist to join our team. The Data Governance Specialist will play a critical role in defining and implementing data governance policies and strategies with an emphasis on unifying master data across the enterprise, in support of the US Navy's mission to modernize transform their HR IT infrastructure. This role requires a deep understanding of data governance practices and supporting technologies, as well as the ability to translate data governance principles and objectives into concrete plans of action that support the Navy's HR strategic objectives.

Responsibilities



  • Collaborate with key stakeholders within the US Navy to understand and define data governance requirements and objectives.
  • Define roles and clear policies for data stewardship of master data elements.
  • This position will work closely with other data strategy areas including Data Architecture, Data Integration and Business Intelligence teams.
  • Advise the Data Architecture team and review the data management strategy to ensure alignment with and optimal support for defined data governance objectives, principles and best practices.
  • Assist the data integration, business intelligence and application development teams to develop strategies by which compliance with data governance policies is incorporated into requirements and test cases.
  • Conduct data governance reviews and assessments to identify risks, gaps, and opportunities for optimization in the context of Navy's data governance requirements and objectives.
  • Identify risks to data quality, consistency and accuracy created by current business processes and systems.
  • Collaborate with the Business Process Reengineering team to ensure that redesigned processes satisfy data governance objectives and promote the uniformity, accuracy and completeness of master data.
  • Identify self-service tools that will enable data stewards to manage data quality and data governance policies independent of IT support.
  • Collaborate with security, compliance, and other IT teams to ensure that the data governance strategy is consistent with Navy's security and compliance requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance, consultation, subject matter expertise, and related support to data stewards.
  • Conduct workshops and demos to promote a culture of data governance and educate data governance managers and stewards.


Required Skills and Experience



  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a Data Governance Specialist or similar role, with a minimum of 8 years of experience defining and implementing data governance policies and strategies.
  • Strong expertise in data governance principles and practices.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience collaborating with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)) preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively remotely in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and produce quality work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite software including Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.


Clearance Requirements

U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Work Location: Arlington, Virginia - Remote

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $180,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
