CT Technologist, St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, 24 Hours (Nights)

Position Function:

Under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager and the general supervision of the Administrative Director, provides technical leadership for the Computed Tomography (CT) Section. Responsibilities include assuring patient safety, accurate performance of all procedures, coordinating workload, staffing and patient schedules. Provides technical oversight, management of supply inventory and maintenance of equipment. Performs and oversees quality and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:


  • "Provides superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers, and patients as referenced in theService Excellence Standards."
  • Coordinates the daily operational activities for the CT area including staff scheduling and patient flow, resulting in an efficient and well organized operating environment.
  • Ensures the quality of exam studies and enforces adherence to exam procedure requirements.
  • Provides appropriate direction, feedback and guidance to CT staff to achieve desired productivity and imaging standards.
  • Insures that CT section standards for turnaround times are met.
  • Attends regularly scheduled department meetings.
  • Organizes and maintains statistical data as required for MA DPH, JCAHO and other regulatory agencies in cooperation with the QC technologist.
  • Recognizes when others are in need of assistance and consistently offers to help when workload permits or finds someone who can.
  • Coordinates CT service maintenance vendor schedules for routine and emergent service to the equipment. The result should be consistent, high quality services to equipment, arranged to minimize operational down-time and expense. Ensures equipment QC, maintenance and corrective action logs are appropriately maintained.
  • Develops and maintains a systematic and reliable schedule for response to staffing needs.
  • Monitors staff interaction with patients and public and assures courteous, sensitive, and caring interactions consistent with the hospital mission. Addresses patient and medical staff complaints and reports all issues to operations manager and/or administrative director.
  • Maintains CT Section Protocol Manual in cooperation with department chair, CT physician director, QC technologist, operations manager and administrative director.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of all required supplies using just in time inventory practices.
  • Provides input for budget preparation and equipment/supply needs.
  • Coordinates and assists with the orientation and training of CT imaging technologists.
  • Participates in the development and evaluation of policies and procedures related to CT.
  • Ensures all CT staff demonstrate competence in the use of CT imaging and patient care equipment.
  • Ensures all CT staff demonstrate competence in performing all exams and procedures in CT.
  • Ensures all CT staff demonstrate competence in use of RIS and PACS and other electronic documentation and film management equipment.
  • Assures adherence to applicable patient safety policies and procedures.
  • Strives for continuous improvement in quality and services and participates in departmental QI program.
  • Establishes and enforces a high standard of environmental cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Provides frequent technical and personal feedback and instruction to staff.
  • Prepares performance evaluations and competency assessments for CT technologists and appropriate support staff for review by operations manager and/or administrative director.
  • Confronts and resolves problems and conflicts in a constructive manner that assures support and development of the department team identity and focus.
  • Promotes professional image by adhering to dress code.
  • Meets all the expectations of the CT imaging technologist.
  • Serves as a resource person for the CT section.
  • Commits to following the ARRT code of ethics.
  • Develops and maintains a systematic and reliable on-call schedule for response to weekend and off-shift procedure demands. Shares call responsibility with CT technologists.

Responsibilities/Non-Essential Functions:


  • Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.
  • Reviews daily tracking to assure all exams have been tracked and completed per department protocol.
  • Maintains CT imaging technologist records, including but not restricted to attendance, ceu, licensure etc. in cooperation with QI/staff education supervisor.
  • Reviews patient exams to ascertain all duties are complete.
  • Participates in investigational and correlation studies as needed.
  • Performs all functions necessary to provide efficient patient care including clerical and transport duties.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education:


  • Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Minimum of Associates degree in Radiologic Technology preferred.
  • Must have ARRT registration in Radiography.
  • Must be licensed by the State of Massachusetts in Radiography.
  • ARRT certification in CT preferred.

Minimum Experience:


  • In depth knowledge of CT imaging procedures at a level generally gained through 3-4 years scanning experience as a CT Imaging Technologist.
  • Demonstrated leadership and problem solving skills.

Minimum skills/abilities:


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to facilitate efficient and courteous communications with patients and hospital employees.
  • Thorough knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, physiology and CT procedures.
  • Active interest in current developments in CT imaging, demonstrated by attendance and/or participation at scientific meetings.
  • Knowledge of computer applications sufficient to assure compliance with department documentation requirements, CT and image management systems (PACS).
  • Excellent problem resolution skills.

Certification/Licensure:


  • Certification by ARRT in Radiography.
  • Massachusetts Department of Public Health Licensure - RT(R)
  • BLS certification preferred.

Training:

Additional training will be provided as necessary.

Special Qualifications:


  • Must obtain required CEU hours to maintain state licensure and national registration.
  • Competency with PACS preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year supervisory or lead experience preferred.
  • ARRT certification in CT preferred.
