Job Summary

Job Summary

Under supervision, incumbents perform the duties of the series wherein the major responsibility is to deliver packages, freight, documents, mail and or a variety of materials to University departments. Deliveries are made by using a wide assortment of material handling equipment and delivery vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At minimum having a high school diploma, or GED, is required for a CDL.
  • Experience driving delivery vehicles (vans and/or 25,500 GVW delivery truck) and using a lift gate to deliver merchandise in busy pedestrian/bicycle traffic areas.
  • Experience handling and operating powered and non-powered material handling equipment (e.g., gas and electric forklifts, electric stock pickers, electric pallet jacks, hand trucks, flat carts, mail tubs and cages etc.).
  • Experience complying with route delivery schemes based on freight volume, geographical location, traffic, and time restrictions.
  • Communication skills and comprehension to read and follow maps, policies, instructions on hazardous materials shipping requirements and regulatory guidelines, packing slips, shipping orders, memos, etc. Writing and printing skills to annotate delivery receipts, shipping memos, etc.
  • Knowledge of Safety procedures and appropriate handling of dangerous goods.
  • Interpersonal and customer service skills communication in a pleasant, tactful, and effective manner in person or on the phone with a wide variety of individuals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Condition of employment is to obtain a commercial C license with hazardous materials endorsement within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Experience using forklifts to load and unload delivery vehicles.
  • Experience delivering and driving in a campus environment.
  • Experience with inventory procedures specific to the University.
  • Knowledge of campus geography and delivery locations.

Department Overview

Custodial Services provides cleaning and custodial services to the campus. This position is one of two responsible for the ordering, receiving, inventorying and delivery of custodial supplies.

Deliver custodial supplies to various buildings and storage locations on campus in a timely and efficient manner.
Complete all paperwork as assigned in conjunction with deliveries.

Work Environment

This position is a critical position and subject to a background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history and identity check. Adhere to approved departmental uniform policy. Participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System. Maintain a valid California Driver's License and any certificate or permit needed to perform job in good standing. A condition of employment is to obtain a commercial C license with hazardous materials endorsement within the first 90 days of employment. Must comply with DOT and Employee Health medical surveillance programs. Required to obtain forklift certification within 45-days of employment. Required to complete online (LMS) required training (i.e. Driver Training, Cyber Security, Ethics, etc.) within 10-days of initial employment. Work a flexible schedule; work occasional overtime; work occasional varied lunch hours, and work occasional weekends and holidays. Restricted vacation during peak periods. Employee is personally responsible for following and adhering to Safety Procedures and Guidelines. This position may require the individual to deliver in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present. Must be able to wear and maintain approved safety equipment as assigned.
