The Network Architect is responsible for looking to the future of network and voice architecture to ensure that Fred Hutch and its partners and affiliates deploy efficient, cost-effective, secure, leading-edge network constructs in support of research and medicine.

This role provides Fred Hutch with expert architect, engineering, and technical leadership for the enterprise-wide Network and IP Voice Infrastructure. Provides expert-level assistance with the analysis, planning, installation and operational support of the organization's internal voice and data communication systems, including LANs, WANs, and other Internet, data communications systems and voice systems (including IP, SIP and VoIP). Works on complex problems where analysis of situation requires in-depth evaluation of various factors. Responsible for the evaluation of current systems, determination of future needs, and strategic direction. Plans and leads implementation of large-scale systems/projects. Provides technical leadership, work leadership, and training to lower-level network engineers. Responsible for improvements to voice and data system-related processes and standards.

Responsibilities

    Perform Network and Network Security assessments of client environment, identify gaps and provide recommendations to address the gaps based on industry practices, standards, emerging technologies, and trends.
  • Develop roadmaps and business case(s).
  • Prepare executive and detailed presentations to the client leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Develop Network and Network Security strategies for the environment.
  • Develop Voice and Voice Security strategies for the environment.
  • Lead teams on cloud network and security transformation projects.
  • Develop Network and Network Security Architecture with inputs from key business, Infrastructure and Security stakeholders.
  • Lead the implementation of network infrastructures solutions (Engineering, configuration, testing, deployment and hyper care support) and manage transition to the Operations team.
  • Lead Project Management activities including planning, scheduling, RAID management, vendor management and financial management.
  • Configure, install, and troubleshoot telephony and network systems.
  • Create and maintain documentation and diagrams.
  • Comply with departmental processes, such as incident management, change management and problem management.
  • Monitor and report on voice and network systems usage, availability, and performance.
  • Lead telephony and networking system evaluations.
  • Collaborate with other members of IT staff and end users.
  • Follow network and VoIP engineering best practices and adhere to existing policies and procedures.
  • Perform advanced-to-expert level configuration, troubleshooting and problem mitigation on all voice and data network equipment, including wireless and network security equipment.
  • Work effectively with vendors, contractors, and other staff to coordinate system installations and provide quality assurance oversight.
  • Identify and maintain tools/applications for network monitoring, control, and reporting.
  • Lead short and long-range capacity planning.
  • Lead design, planning, and implementation of voice and data network systems.
  • Lead the evaluation of functionality/feature sets needed for voice and data network and direct selection of the correct hardware/software accordingly.
  • Utilize project planning and management skills to act as lead on large projects.
  • Perform in-depth network analysis, and provide evaluation, determination, and direction.
  • Provide advanced network designs, including diagrams and documentation.
  • Provide guidance, direction, and training to lower-level staff.
  • Perform 24/7 on-call support on a rotating basis and after-hours/weekend work for planned maintenance as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MS Degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Engineering, Mathematics or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Nine or more years of experience architecting, designing, deploying and supporting advanced, large-scale, high-volume and reliable networks both physical & logical, as well as software-defined networking constructs.
  • Experience as a lead network engineer in a major national or international production network environment.
  • Cisco CCNP certification (or other equivalent network certification).
  • Expected to be able to work independently with little direct supervision.
  • Strong expertise with a variety of Network Management systems and approaches.
  • Strong expertise with a variety of Datacenter and Cloud constructs as they relate to network infrastructure requirements both in support of the network itself as well as network users accessing Cloud resources.
  • Identification, creation and deployment of virtualization and automation constructs to increase efficiency and reliability and decrease costs.
  • Track record of successful, increased responsibility and decision making; successful design and deployment of major, large-scale leading-edge network constructs inclusive of automation and virtualization technologies.
  • Track record of successful evaluation and proof-of-concept of leading-edge network technologies and tools.
  • Proven record of advanced project planning and organizational skills, including building strong and supportive team relationships with ability to mentor and coach, delegate, make decisions and hold people accountable.
  • Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities.
  • Expert knowledge of LAN/WAN, data communications systems, Internet and telecommunication protocols, remote access systems, server and LAN hardware systems, routers, switches, firewalls, UPS/PDU equipment, and wireless network equipment.
  • Advanced understanding of ANSI/TIA/EIA standards and routing protocols such as EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP.
  • Advanced understanding of security engineering experience, including firewall rule set construction and management, Intrusion Detection Systems, and network access control systems.
  • Expert analytical abilities and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced scripting/programming skills for task automation.
  • Expert familiarity with software productivity packages such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Able to effectively prioritize heavy workload and meet tight deadlines.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CCIE certification.
  • Experience in a major higher education, research, and/or medical/healthcare organization.
  • Experience with ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library, a set of detailed practices for IT service and asset management)
  • Software coding tools & practices such as Agile, DevOps, Python, Ansible, Django, github, Containers.
  • Prior experience using ServiceNow, Atlassian Confluence and JIRA, O365, Google Suite.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $130,728 to $206,585, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
