General Notes

Must be eligible to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer. This position is scheduled to end on August 31, 2026, with continuation in successive years possible beyond August 31, 2026 depending on funding, workload, and job performance.

Purpose

Responsible for the daily management and long-term improvement of various academic advising tools and technologies designed to support and enhance students' academic advising experiences. Provide academic advising related to major exploration, internal transfer planning, the core curriculum, and the Skills & Experience Flags. Collaborate with the Vick Advising Excellence Center team to carry out the mission of supporting and elevating the campus advising community by ensuring all advisors have the training, tools, and resources they need to best support their students.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for and manage the day-to-day maintenance of academic advising tools such as the Message two-way texting platform, registration and progress-to-degree dashboards, and the Student Program Database. Work closely with technology vendors, campus users, and other stakeholders to support the long-term improvement of these tools.
  • Provide academic advising related to major exploration and internal transfer planning for undergraduate students from all schools and colleges who are considering changing majors. Provide Core Curriculum and Flags advising for students with complex general education issues.
  • Develop training and best practices for users of these advising tools to encourage data-driven decisions and to promote strategic advising interventions. Work with the Director to oversee the strategy for wider adoption of these advising tools among the academic advising community.
  • Maintain working knowledge of academic advising and participate in professional development through conference attendance and research inquiries related to academic advising.
  • Serve as an active and engaged member of the Vick Advising Excellence Center, supporting the team's comprehensive efforts to serve the academic advising community and transitional/exploratory student populations with other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and six years of experience in academic advising, program administration, or program coordination, or master's degree and 4 years of above experience, or doctoral degree and two years of above experience. Demonstrated ability to utilize advising technology and to develop best practices and training opportunities for its use throughout the advising community. Proven ability to effectively and positively collaborate with others. Superb written and oral communication skills.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than the above required experience. Familiarity with UT Austin's academic advising, administrative, and student processes and tools. Knowledge of institutional policies related to academic advising and student success. Experience working with exploratory students and the internal transfer process. Experience using analytical and assessment tools within a higher education environment. Demonstrated experience using data to drive decision making.

Salary Rate

$50,000

  • This position follows a 40-hour work week that includes flexible work arrangements at the discretion of the supervisor
