TITLE

Assistant Director, Supplemental Instruction

JOB SUMMARY

This position will direct all aspects of academic support and programming associated with Supplemental Instruction (SI) at Texas Woman's University (TWU). The Assistant Director will be a creative and energetic team member and will coordinate the SI program through a student support data driven lens. They will provide leadership, supervision, and assessment of the SI Leader student staff. This will include such tasks as: meeting with SI leaders, coordinating monthly student staff meetings, and conducting SI Leader observations. The Assistant Director will be responsible for working with faculty, directing all training and supervision of SI Leaders, and assessing all aspects is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Director, Academic Success Initiatives

Supervises: May supervise student assistants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following:

* Coordinate Supplemental Instruction for courses across the institution, as assigned by the Director.

* Recruit and train SI Leaders.

* Provide training and supervision to student SI Leaders.

* Serve as SI Leader when needed.

* Manage any issues that arise between faculty and SI Leaders.

* Have knowledge of campus human resources policies, procedures, and employment development opportunities.

* Maintain materials for use in policy and procedure manuals and training documents.

* Develop appropriate marketing materials for SI program and distribute widely.

* Collaborate with relevant departments to promote the SI program.

* Oversee planning, development, and implementation of training programs university wide for SI.

* Work collaboratively with faculty to ensure that program operates efficiently and effectively.

* Coordinate identification courses for SI, including data analysis, stakeholder survey, and formal presentations in collaboration with the Director, Academic Success Initiatives.

* Responsible for retention reporting in support of key performance indicators.

* Assist the Director with tracking Supplemental Instruction program outcomes and improvements as necessary.

* Maintain SI supervisor training and certification, provide training and supervision of SI Leaders, maintain institution-specific training, and other activities as deemed necessary to remain consistent with standards of practice.

* Meet with the Director in an ongoing and regular capacity to ensure program functionality and maintenance of best practices in the field.

* Keep accurate and up-to-date information on the services provided to students.

* Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with faculty and other stakeholders to promote Supplemental Instruction to enrolled students.

* Assist in supporting university programmatic and departmental initiatives as assigned.

* Serve as primary contact for SI program.

* Work effectively with campus partners to ensure effective administration of the SI program

* Develop and manage budgets in regard to staffing.

* Keep current on research, best practices, and new initiatives regarding SI.

* Represents the Pioneer Center for Student Excellence on internal and external committees, task forces, and councils.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

* Performs other duties as requested.

EDUCATION

Master's degree or higher in Math, Science, English, Education, or related field.

EXPERIENCE

Demonstrated three years of experience in supplemental instruction, tutoring, or learning resources in a post-secondary academic environment. Have attended or be willing to attend International Center for Supplemental Instruction Supervisor Training, University of Missouri-Kansas City.

REQUIREMENT

Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.

* Knowledge of FERPA.

* Knowledge of theoretical models of college student development and students in transition.

* Knowledge of undergraduate and graduate degree programs in general subject areas.

* Ability to effectively manage the work of others by providing information, guidance, and motivation.

* Ability to implement new systems and procedures and to evaluate their effectiveness.

* Ability to exercise a high degree of independent judgement in the establishment, interpretation, application and enforcement of all rules, regulations, and policies.

* Ability to have excellent interpersonal skills.

* Ability to provide strong managerial skills.

* Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.

* Ability to communicate effectively orally, by phone, in person, and in writing.

* Ability to represent the department and university in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.

* Working knowledge of office practices and methods.

* Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including university related software and email.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Supervisors and employees should ensure that injury/accident reports are submitted to the Office of Human Resources and Risk Management within 24 hours of the incident.
