Performs a variety of routine and advanced technical and patient care duties under the direction of physicians and nurses. Prepares rooms and equipment for procedures and cleans and reprocesses a variety of endoscopes and accessories. Maintains and stocks instruments and supplies.

II. Major Responsibilities:

• Prepares procedure rooms for endoscopic procedures.
• Assist with patient transfer to and from procedure rooms, prepares vital sign monitoring systems, and position patient appropriate to procedure.
• Assist health care team with patient care, ensuring proper airway protection via oral suctioning during upper endoscopic procedures.
• Assembles necessary equipment specific to procedure, to include scopes and instruments used for therapeutic and diagnostic treatments.
• Troubleshoots and ensure proper working order of computer and equipment.
• Ensures availability of equipment properly sized for the procedure.
• Assists physicians and health care staff with advanced endoscopic procedures.

Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:

Equivalent to high school plus additional specialized training.

Preferred:

SGNA certification preferred.

Experience/Skills:

Required:

Minimum of two years of relevant experience required. Knowledge of patient care, endoscopy procedures and basic GI anatomy. Advanced knowledge of endoscopic procedures. Must be flexible with scheduling needs. Must be able to work independently and work well in teams. Ability to exercise good judgment, discretion and communication skills. Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Preferred:

Surgical Instrument technician or Central Sterile Technician experience is preferred.
