Responsibilities

The Phlebotomy Technician - Lead/Supervisor, must meet the certification requirements of a CPT-1 supervises CPT-1 and as needed, performs the following.1) performs computer data entry, filing, telephone communication and other clerical duties, 2) possesses adequate knowledge of the terminology of tests ordered in the laboratory, 3) demonstrates proper phlebotomy technique and the use of equipment in collecting specimens from newborns to geriatric patients, 4) processes microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry and blood bank specimens, 5) processes specimens for referral to reference laboratories, 6) stocks and orders routine supplies, 7) maintains the cleanliness of storage areas, trays, centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers and work areas, 8) processes or loads specimens on automated laboratory instrumentation in accordance with established policy and procedures, 9) performs annual staff performance evaluations 10) provides staff training and orientation, 11) evaluates and ensures staff competency, 12) ensures staff compliance with all regulatory requirements, 13) assist in development and maintenance of policies and procedures appropriate to the department, 14) ensures staff compliance with all laboratory and hospital policies 15) provides for a safe work environment in evaluating and implementing PPE and other safety phlebotomy devices, 16) Actively participates in the collection and evaluation of QA data for the development of Performance Improvement initiatives, 17) other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.



Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. Current and valid state Certification as a CPT I or II preferred.

2. Current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current certification according to hospital requirement

3. Minimum 2 years of clinical laboratory experience required

4. 1 year of previous supervisory/management experience preferred

5. High School diploma or equivalent.
