Job Summary

The anticipated duration of this temporary assignment is approximately 4 months.

Involves analytical studies on a variety of policies, projects, programs and issues in support of a function, research initiative, program and/or organizational unit, or in research of new or changing systems and programs. Assists in policy and program planning, development, administration, management and implementation; interprets, monitors and analyzes information regarding policies and procedures and provides consultative services to department administrators and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Apply professional or research concepts to analyze data and systems for moderately complex projects, policies, initiatives, processes, and functions.
  • Gather and assemble analytical and factual data to prepare reports or analyses summarizing assigned issues, and provide commentary on significance for internal or external stakeholders.
  • Prepare, edit, and modify documents including research reports, manuscripts, presentations, and proposals.
  • Assist project leader(s) in developing research project plans and discussing interpretation of results; collaborate on manuscript preparation for publication.
  • Review journals, abstracts, and scientific literature to stay informed about new developments and previous studies to inform planning of new studies.
  • Draft communications for newsletters and website updates, adhering to UCSF brand identity standards.
  • Collect and prepare information for use in discussions and meetings with internal and external constituents, using subject matter knowledge.
  • Create agendas and organize regular meetings in consultation with the PI.
  • Independently plan, organize, and facilitate international and domestic program meetings/teleconferences by assessing needs, resources, and constraints.
  • Perform analytical studies on policies, research initiatives, programs, and issues on a project basis.
  • Provide analytical support for a function, research initiative, program, or organizational unit.
  • Assist with data management and provide support for monitoring and evaluation initiatives, including data entry.
  • Participate in administrative and research policy, program planning, and development.
  • Assist in coordinating program planning and collaborating with other project teams.
  • Coordinate program activities and communication among core team and collaborating partners.
  • Participate in and assist with preparation for regularly scheduled meetings with in-country project teams.
  • Participate in calls, maintain awareness of activity status, and provide assistance as needed.
  • Assist in planning and managing key activities and projects.
  • Capture and summarize team and partner meeting notes; distribute minutes and action items in a timely manner.
  • Prepare briefing materials and meeting packs.
  • Organize research and materials for meetings, calls, and other reading resources.
  • Conduct literature searches and analyze background information to support program knowledge management initiatives.
  • Report on the status of assigned projects during team meetings and take on additional tasks as needed.

Department Description

UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.

Required Qualifications


  • Working knowledge of common computer applications:
    • Comfortable with MS Office Suite (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook)
    • Familiar with Zoom and Google Drive (Docs, Forms, Sheets)
    • Proficient in Google Search and Browser tools
  • Communication and interpersonal skills:
    • Clear, concise, and appropriate verbal and written communication
    • Strong reading comprehension
  • Discretion and confidentiality:
    • Ability to maintain discretion in interactions with students and faculty
  • Sound judgment:
    • Ability to digest, understand, and reference existing policies for decision-making
  • Time management and multitasking:
    • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines without sacrificing work quality
  • Administrative skills:
    • Demonstrated history of strong administrative skills
    • Strong organizational skills, planning, tracking, and communication of goals and outcomes

Preferred Qualifications


  • Knowledge of university systems
  • Experience in writing publications:
    • Experience writing newsletters, web articles, or other publications
  • FERPA familiarity or training
  • Analytical and research skills:
    • Ability to analyze, research, and synthesize large amounts of data with attention to detail
  • Policy analysis techniques:
    • Knowledge of applicable poli
