Overview

The Sports Medicine Sports Performance Specialist Develops, implements, and monitors sports performance services on behalf of Nationwide Children's Hospital Sports Medicine. Assists in management of sports performance facilities, participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of department goals related to sports performance services, and ensures compliance with Joint Commission and external regulatory bodies. Participates in clinical research, quality improvement initiatives and hospital or departmental committees.

Schedule: PT, Benefits Eligible, 25 hrs/week

Responsibilities

    Frequently develops and maintains relationships with community coaches, parents, athletic trainers, physical therapists, and physicians to establish referral patterns to the program.
  • Continuously designs, implements, and monitors age-appropriate injury prevention and performance enhancement programs for sports medicine clientele, schools, interscholastic teams, and community youth organizations.
  • Continuously communicates with children on a level that they'll understand with instruction, cueing, and error correction.
  • Occasionally coordinates transition of student-athlete rehabilitation to performance training with sports medicine staff.
  • Occasionally assists with coordinating, maintaining, and staffing of weight room/performance facilities; assists in identifying and purchasing needed equipment; assists in scheduling training for various athletic programs.

Qualifications

Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor's degree in a health or exercise related field, required.
  • Masters degree, preferred.

Licensure Requirement:

  • Valid Ohio driver's license and proof of auto insurance as required by hospital policy.
  • Must pass motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications, and training set forth by Nationwide Children's Hospital and maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.

Certifications:

  • CPR certification, required.
  • National Strength & Conditioning Association and/or American College of Sports Medicine certification, preferred.
  • Other preferred certifications include: Functional Movement Systems, USA Weightlifting, and USA Track & Field.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of sports performance training methods and equipment.
  • Ability to lead large group training sessions.
  • Knowledge of OHSAA and NCAA rules and regulations.

Experience:

  • 2 years of related experience preferred, including working with athletic and youth populations.
