Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Epidemiology (http://www.sph.unc.edu/epid/) is internationally recognized as a leader in epidemiologic research, practice, and training and is housed within the Gillings School of Global Public Health, the number one ranked public school of Public Health in the US.

Departmental faculty lead research programs, engage with multiple interdisciplinary research centers and programs, and utilize a variety of state, national, and international data repositories. Extensive opportunities exist to collaborate on new and ongoing studies with faculty across the Department of Epidemiology, Gillings School of Global Public Health, and UNC more broadly. Relevant UNC centers and institutes include the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute ( FPG), the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities ( CIDD), The Carolina Population Center ( CPC), the Sheps Center for Health Services Research, the Center for AIDS Research ( CFAR), the Center for Pharmacoepidemiology ( CPE), the Center for Environmental Health and Susceptibility ( CEHS), The Causal Inference Research Group ( CIRG), the North Carolina Translational and Clinical Sciences Institute (NC TraCs), Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center ( LCCC), and the Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases ( IGHID). Faculty also engage in collaborations across regional research agencies and institutions including the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences ( NIEHS), Environmental Protection Agency ( EPA), Research Triangle Institute ( RTI), FHI 360, Duke University, and NC State University.

The Department of Epidemiology provides strong training in epidemiology through residential and online programs that serve ~200 students (60% PhD, 35% MPH, 5% MSCR). This training allows students to work with faculty to develop and apply innovative research studies that address a wide range of public health challenges domestically and internationally. Support for exceptional predoctoral scholars is available through NICHD-funded training grants.

The achievements of faculty, staff, students, and alumni contribute to an international reputation as a leading academic department of epidemiology. The department has an annual operating budget of approximately $30 million and supports approximately 40 Tenured- Tenure Track Faculty, 10 Joint Tenure-Track Faculty, and 25 Fixed Term Faculty.
Position Summary
The Department of Epidemiology, Gillings School of Global Public Health, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is recruiting two full-time tenure track faculty positions focused on reproductive, perinatal, or pediatric epidemiology. These positions will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and Associate Professor. Outstanding candidates will have expertise applying epidemiology methods to understand the epidemiology, etiology, biology, prevention, or equity related to reproduction, perinatal health, or pediatric health.

UNC Department of Epidemiology faculty are expected to develop and maintain an independently funded research portfolios, serve as academic advisors to doctoral and masters epidemiology students, and contribute to classroom teaching in their discipline. e.g. reproductive, perinatal and pediatric epidemiology.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD in Epidemiology or a related field of study
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Candidates for the rank of Assistant Professor must demonstrate strong potential to become independent investigator, teacher, and mentor. Candidates for the rank of Associate Professor must have a strong record of scholarship, including substantial experience as a principal investigator and key collaborator on epidemiology research, a funded research program, and a strong record of teaching and mentoring graduate students.
