Department:Civil Engineering IT

https://engineering.uark.edu/civil-engineering/ Summary of Job Duties:The Research Professional II will be a part of the team that supports the research and teaching labs for the Department of Civil Engineering. This job entails working alongside students and faculty in the department and working independently on tasks related to experimental work in a variety of civil engineering laboratories. This position will also assist with the safe operation and maintenance of the department facilities and equipment. The skills and techniques used in the position vary greatly, so applicants from broad, related backgrounds are encouraged to apply. This position is expected to travel occasionally.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma

  • At least five years related work experience or academic/trade school training in related fields

  • Experience in construction, manufacturing, or laboratory methods, best practices, and safety procedures

  • Basic computer literacy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with a manual vertical mill, lathes, various CNC machines, brazing, TIG welding, MIG welding, gas torches for heating and cutting, cutting, milling, turning, and threading, horizontal and vertical band saws, table saw, circular saw, reciprocating saws

  • General contracting experience

  • Previous experience in an academic work environment

  • Experience in construction related fields

  • Experience with Carpentry and hand tools

  • Experience operating heavy equipment

  • Experience with computer software used in controls systems, data recording, or data acquisition

  • Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and/or using laboratory equipment

  • Experience with sensors, data acquisition, and programming

  • Experience with data handling (servers), IT services, and data security

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of Start-to-finish project development

  • Knowledge of safe wiring practices and ability to interpret wiring diagrams

  • Knowledge of pumps and hydraulic equipment

  • Ability to manufacture simpleand complex components

  • Ability to develop specifications for test apparatuses

  • Ability to create and interpret files and drawings required to manufacture components

  • Ability to use CAD programs or related software

  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform equipment repairs and/or assemble new equipment

  • Ability to work with diverse team members including students and faculty

  • Basic math skills applied to construction or manufacturing contexts

Additional Information:

This position is renewable annually based on continued need for the position, availability of funding, and satisfactory job performance.

Salary Information:

$52,000 - $55,000
