Part-Time Career and Community Engagement Program Assistant

Hourly Rate: $16.69

The Career and Community Engagement Assistant is responsible for assisting in the promotion and execution of Career and Community events, programs, and initiatives. The Career and Community Engagement Assistant position is a part-time, 19 hours-or-less appointment on a schedule established by the Director of Career and Community Engagement. Availability to work some evenings and weekend days is required. The position involves completing assigned projects within established deadlines and handling multiple tasks simultaneously. The Career and Community Engagement Assistant must be able to acquire and develop software skills, and execute some basic design work. The Program Assistant must be able to work effectively with the faculty, staff, and public in a high-volume environment.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide clerical and administrative support to the Director
  • Assist in preparing for, and execution of, Career and Community Engagement events and activities
  • Assist and monitor students and families visiting the career rooms
  • Monitor supply levels and assist in preparation and ordering of supplies
  • Maintain career rooms, ensuring their readiness for public and internal use
  • Develop materials for print and social media
  • Facilitate production of printed materials in the campus print shop.
  • Serve as a Parkland brand ambassador to the community
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate Degree
  • 2 years' experience as a professional in an educational setting
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check with fingerprinting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, with the ability to learn Parkland College's CRM (Slate), and new programs as technology changes.
  • Ability to learn design software and produce professional-looking documents
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse groups of people, including middle and high school aged students, and those with English as a second language.
  • Attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekend days.
  • In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
