JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

We are searching for a Software Systems Engineer to join our Strategic Navigation Department in our Navigation Research and Development Division at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL's purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC). The Strategic Navigation Systems Department focuses on the development and evaluation of high performance navigation systems, sensors, and integration of those sensors into the US Navy's strategic weapons systems.

Your working location will be fully on-site, located in Uniondale, NY. A hybrid on-site/remote work schedule may be possible.

You will:

  • Perform independent review of software and system requirement and design documents
  • Provide on site technical support during test events
  • Resolve or assist in the resolution of conflicts and the mitigation of risks within programs
  • Perform engineering work related to navigation engineering and strategic weapon systems
  • Interact and collaborate regularly with program management, program sponsors and stakeholder

This position can be filled at multiple levels, depending upon successful candidate's education and experience. Minimally requires a Bachelors' Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline, plus 2 years of related experience. Additional experience and/or education are required for higher level positions.

Additional responsibilities of a higher level include:

  • Oversee systems engineering and design work, including system and sub-system requirements and design
  • Participate in the strategic planning process and provide input into strategic decisions for organization, unit and strategic partners
  • Review, evaluate, and develop solution for software and systems problems

Required skills/experience areas include:

  • Navigation experience in a DoD (Department of Defense) environment
  • Strategic weapon systems
  • Expertise with PNT technologies which may include: Inertial Navigation, Global Positioning System, Alternative Navigation Technologies, Geophysical Navigation
  • Experience supporting DoD acquisition and/or sustainment programs
  • Excellent presentation skills and effective written and oral communication

Additional requirements of a higher level include:

  • Navigation experience in a DoD (Department of Defense) environment
  • Strategic weapon systems

Preferred skills/experience areas include:

  • Active government security clearance

**The proposed salary range may be impacted by geographic differential.**

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$86,300.00 - $164,000.00
