Library & Information Science Intern

Wolfram, creator of Mathematica, Wolfram|Alpha and Wolfram Language, has an exciting opportunity for a Library & Information Science Intern. Wolfram Research's in-house library serves departments throughout the company by providing resources and materials to hundreds of employees both on- and offsite. This position requires interaction with various departments within the company. This is an onsite position but also lends to a flexible schedule within the work week, working up to 10 hours per week.

Responsibilities



  • Creating bibliographic records for materials in the library collection, including books, serials and non-print formats using L of Congress Subject Headings, Dewey Decimal Classification, Library of Congress Classification, Resource Description & Access (RDA), OCLC, and the library's integrated library system (ILS)
  • Reclassifying, editing and/or enhancing existing catalog records
  • Maintaining the ILS
  • Organizing Wolfram Research's physical library holdings
  • Obtaining articles, ebooks, journal subscriptions, other subscriptions, magazines and newspapers
  • Performing copy and original cataloging, shelving and readying items for archive storage as needed
  • Assisting with digital library requests via the library's Request Tracker queue
  • Fielding questions from employees in person and becoming familiar with how to access various resources
  • Weeding the library to maintain relevant resources
  • Contributing to collection shifts to retain browsability in the onsite stacks


Qualifications



  • In pursuit of a degree in library science or information services and/or has worked in a library or archival setting
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and inquisitively
  • Willingness to be creative in problem solving and research
  • Experience with technical or academic research
