Essential Job Functions |
Provide technical and administrative supervision of a central steam generation facility.
The position requires a thorough knowledge of complex mechanical systems including boiler controls, fuel and water delivery systems, and water treatment programs.
In addition, the position performs supervision of boiler operators and maintenance personnel. Interviews applicants and makes recommendations/selections for new employees for maintenance, repair, and construction work.
Administrative work includes preparation, performance, and record keeping of performance evaluations; counseling and discipline of employees including resolution of personnel issues and complaints. |
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position |
- Knowledge and experience in the operation and design of steam generation facilities and distribution of steam and condensate.
- Knowledge and experience in the operation of controls for complex steam generation facilities.
- Working knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and material used in the general maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery.
- Skill in the use of machine shop equipment.
- Ability to prepare and interpret building and mechanical layout plans and specifications.
- Ability to estimate cost and amount of needed repair and replacement parts for operating equipment.
- The ability to prepare and maintain records and reports required by state and federal regulations.
- Knowledge and application of purchasing rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, state building codes, University standards, environmental agency requirements and life safety standards.
- Ability to operate university owned vehicles with a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications |
Prior experience in a supervisory position in energy management and/or central plant or large scale gas/oil fired boiler operations is essential for this position. |

Work Schedule/Hours |
The work schedule is primarily 7:00am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. Additional hours will be required to monitor work activities as they occur. The position is on call for response to emergency situations 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The position serves as the On-Call Administrator on scheduled basis.
This position is considered MANDATORY and is expected to be available to work during all University closures, emergencies and adverse weather conditions. |

Physical Demands of Position |
Moderate physical effort is required in this position. Work may often be performed subject to several extremes of heat, cold, dust and dirt. Physical effort is usually in the form of climbing stairs or ladders to check the progress of work and in walking to and from job sites. Heavy lifting in excess of 50-100 pounds is also required on a limited basis. Call back situations may necessitate emergency repairs in extremes of inclement weather. Duration varies and is determined by the extent of work being planned and location. |
