COOP. Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm for inpatients some occasional Saturdays; For OPD hours may be the same or 10:00 am - 6:30 pm

The Physical Therapy Cooperative Education Student must be enrolled in a Formal College Cooperative Education Program. The Physical Therapy Cooperative Education Student fulfills the duties of the Aide within the Department. The Cooperative Education Student provides support to the Professional and Administrative Staff of Rehabilitation Services to facilitate treatment to patients who have impairments, functional limitations, disabilities or changes in function and health status resulting form injury, disease, or other causes. The Physical Therapy Coop acts under the supervision and guidance of a licensed Physical Therapist of Physical Therapy Assistant. The Physical Therapy "Coop" may act as a "second pair of hands" with transfers, moving equipment, basic gait or exercise performance. Often, they also provide the necessary cleaning, ordering supplies and equipment, or support to the front desk staff that keeps the department moving smoothly.



  • Carries through basic exercise and gait programs within safe guidelines outlined by the Physical Therapist, and within guidelines of the Board of Allied Health of the State of Massachusetts.
  • Establish and maintain a responsible work plan. Communicates needs of work plan to supervising therapist/s. Remains flexible to needs of patients, staff and Department.
  • Documents appropriately on patient flow sheet as outlined by the State of Massachusetts. Responsible in assuring cosigning is complete.
  • Work as a member of the Rehabilitation Department Team as well as the greater hospital interdisciplinary team.
  • Aware of appropriate non billing for patient care provided according to billing compliance policy and procedure for aides.
  • Participates in and demonstrates continuing education, departmental projects, and student program.
  • Participates in staff meetings/team meetings and journal club, as scheduled.
  • Adheres to department coverage policy for position.

Qualifications

  • Current Physical Therapy Student
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Hospital experience is preferred.
  • Staff adheres to all C.A.R.E. Standards
  • Ability to communicate respectfully and professionally with patients, families, the interdisciplinary team, and colleagues..
  • Computer skills
