Director of Core Marketing Services

Cooley is seeking a Director of Core Marketing Services to join the Marketing & Business Development team.

Position summary: The Director of Core Marketing Services ("the director") will oversee service delivery across all of the firm's centralized "core" marketing services. The role will be responsible for department operations, core marketing services operations, event planning, content management, and global pitch and proposal support. The director will ensure that resources are optimized and organized to meet the ongoing marketing support needs of the firm and prioritized to focus on the firm's primary strategic objectives. Effective resource management includes optimization of budgets, internal staffing, technology solutions and outside services. Direct reports include associate directors or managers for each functional area. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Position responsibilities:

Department operations

  • Oversee team responsible for:
  • Annual development and update of global marketing budgets and support expense management via ongoing approval and monthly reporting of actual expenses
  • Department-level review and approval of all marketing contracts and coordination with the firm's contract review team
  • Document and ensure adherence to marketing-related policies and procedures to minimize risk and improve efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery
  • Development of onboarding and ongoing training for global marketing staff to enhance skills and prepare team for further development
  • Coordination of and oversight of annual performance review process
  • Collaborate with relevant department directors and the firm's innovation and information services teams to develop and implement technology solutions to support the effective delivery of marketing services
  • Develop dashboards and reports to support effective delivery of service and to document progress and effectiveness of the firm's marketing and business development services

Core marketing services operations

  • Oversee project intake for all new core marketing service requests, ensuring that all relevant details and supporting documentation have been received
  • Assign projects to internal team members or outside service providers, ensuring accurate match of skills and availability required for each assignment
  • Develop clear project workflows and ensure all projects are reviewed and approved by all relevant parties to ensure quality and alignment to objectives
  • Ensure agreed upon deadlines are realistic and achievable. Manage agreed to deadlines accurately
  • Communicate clearly and frequently with project stakeholders to ensure alignment and adherence to agreed deadlines

Event planning

  • Oversee global schedule of events and manage volume to meet resource availability
  • Oversee team responsible for delivering event planning services for all Cooley hosted and sponsored events

Content management

  • Oversee a team of content management personnel responsible for updating various content management platforms as new and revised content is developed and approved by the content strategy team
  • Includes all "about Cooley" marketing content: firm and practice descriptions, matter descriptions and biographies as well as awards submissions content

Pitches and proposals

  • Oversee team responsible for global RFP and RFI response strategy and management
  • Includes maintenance of standard pitch response library and customization of pitch materials for individual opportunities

Awards and Rankings

  • Maintain a full schedule of deadlines and requirements for all awards and rankings opportunities
  • Optimize awards and rankings submissions process through greater automation and consistency of approach
  • Coordinate with knowledge management team to ensure comprehensive reporting of new matters for league table rankings

Outsourcing

  • Identify and screen outside resources that can support delivery of optimized services
  • Work with relevant directors to select and develop contract terms with outside service providers
  • Ensure that relationship and value are optimized throughout engagement with outside service providers

Supervisory

  • Serve as direct supervisor and mentor to direct reports; ensure strong leadership for junior support team members via coaching and mentoring of direct reports
  • Support business professional development and continued educational opportunities
  • In collaboration with immediate supervisor and HR, participate in hiring, performance appraisals, counseling, termination and other employee lifecycle events
  • All other duties as assigned or required

Skills and experience:

Required:

  • After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications
  • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required
  • Ability to travel, as required
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 10+ years of direct relevant exempt-level experience (e.g., marketing operations experience at a management level, preferably in a professional services organization, with proven ability to manage, coach and motivate)
  • 5+ years of management experience in relevant roles and with proven track record of effective leadership
  • Advanced project management skills and experience developing and deploying project management technology solutions
  • Proficient in the use of CRM technologies
  • Experience managing a large team of reports

Cooley offers a competitive compensation and excellent benefits package and is committed to fair and equitable employment practices. EOE.

The expected annual pay range for this position with a full-time schedule is $300,000 - $375,000.

Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
