Savannah River Site (Show on map)
Jan 09, 2025

SRNL's Materials Science and Disposition group is seeking a qualified Scientist/Engineer to grow the laboratory's DOE-Nuclear Energy (NE-8), DOE-EM Technology Development (TD), and SRS portfolios in the areas of Spent Nuclear Fuel (SNF) Storage, the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) SNF drying pilot, disposition technologies, and aging management programs. This person will work on teams to propose, define, and execute the scope of technical programs for the nuclear materials processing/treatment for stabilization for extended storage/disposition of SNF and nuclear materials.

Successful candidates would have a degree in a materials related field, demonstrated ability to design and conduct research to leverage new technologies, materials, and phenomena, and demonstrated ability to apply and interpret scientific or engineering laws and theories to solve general problems. The role will also involve programmatic management and interface with local and HQ-stationed DOE customers. While NE/SNF experience is preferred, someone with tangential nuclear or materials storage experience can increase their technical depth while in the role. Similarly, programmatic experience is preferred but the opportunity is also there for someone who has lead skills and is looking to grow their program management skills. Field of Study/Capabilities include but not limited to nuclear engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science/engineering, physics and related science or engineering disciplines.
