Shive-Hattery's West Des Moines office is growing and we are seeking entry level Civil Designers who are challenging themselves to obtain their Professional Engineering license. We have needs for additional engineers to assist our clients and staff on a wide variety water resources projects. Interested candidates should have a strong interest and passion for stormwater, urban drainage, water and wastewater treatment, flood mitigation, stream restoration, watershed improvements, and green infrastructure BMP's.

You will have an opportunity to work on projects throughout Iowa and other states, working collaboratively on a variety of projects such as:



  • Drainage Studies
  • Lake restoration
  • Flood Studies
  • Mitigation Banks
  • Water Treatment
  • Wastewater Treatment
  • Stream Stabilization and Restoration
  • Culvert and Bridge Hydraulics
  • Lift Stations
  • Storm Water Detention
  • Constructed Wetlands


  • Assist with engineering design for a wide variety of public and private projects in the industrial, healthcare, education, commercial and government market sectors
  • Preparation of AutoCAD drawings, reports and technical specifications
  • Design drainage and storm sewer design, sanitary sewer design, wastewater treatment design, water treatment design, water main design, project phasing, and other site design components
  • Assist with performing onsite construction administration and construction observation services including reporting and monitoring contractor's compliance with contract documents
  • Ability to work with other Engineers on multi-discipline teams

Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Biosystems Engineering

Experience: A recent graduate or early career Engineer Intern with 0 to 3 years

License/Certification: Successful completion of the Fundamentals Of Engineering (FE) exam and designation as an Engineer Intern (EI) with interest in obtaining a Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Software: Microsoft Office

Effectively assist on multiple projects and multiple deadlines including planning, organizing, and prioritizing work

Work occasional overtime hours.

Valid driver's license and access to vehicle.

Climb ladders and work on elevated platforms and open grating.

Wear personal safety equipment required for specific clients and sites.

Pass drug and background screenings required for work at most client sites.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Experience in Autodesk Revit is preferred, but not required. AutoCAD Civil 3D experience a plus

* Leverage previous internship skills or summer experiences in general civil engineering or construction.

* Practical experience with Autodesk Civil 3D

* Experience in construction, documentation, and design development is advantageous.

* Exceptional communication and organizational abilities

*A keen interest in learning to solve technical problems by enhancing one's skillset.

* An ability to work well within a team and build collaborative relationships with peers.

* A willingness to learn system administration tasks for various design software platforms.
