About the Role

The HR Manager position will support the full scope of Human Resources responsibilities and be the main onsite HR support for the Matson Phoenix office. They will maintain and enhance the organization's human resources function by planning, implementing, and evaluating human resources policies, programs, and practices. They will also be responsible for full-cycle recruitment efforts, new hire orientation and onboarding, employee transaction administration, compliance and, in addition, you will build strong internal relationships to help managers with their human resources needs and drive positive Employee Relations. This is a very hands-on, tactical position. The position is eligible for a hybrid schedule with a minimum of 3 days in the office.

What you'll do:

  • Actively engage with management and employee populations to ensure relations are mutually positive and productive. Investigate employee relations matters, including counseling all parties on fair and equitable solutions.
  • Maintain understanding and support of business operations, objectives, and priorities.
  • Keep to date on federal, state, and local employment laws/regulations along with any required reporting requirements
  • Manage all local recruiting activity from generating candidate pool, making salary recommendations to managers, and conducting new hire orientation and onboarding.
  • Contribute to the development of policies, practices, and procedures for the Human Resources function in support of business objectives.
  • Coach leaders on best practices for maintaining productive and healthy organizational climate for positive employee relations.
  • Coordinate Organization Engagement survey and follow up actions.
  • Manage performance management program to ensure effectiveness and compliance with corporate policy.
  • Manage salary administration to ensure consistency with corporate compensation philosophy and pay structure to maintain competitive pay practices and equity within organization.
  • Maintains knowledge of compensation trends within local labor market to ensure competitive pay practices.
  • Partners with Corporate colleagues on benefit program administration, HR policy compliance.
  • Ensure adherence with all compliance training (Code of Conduct, Sexual Harassment, Safety, etc.).
  • Support and lead Leadership Development initiatives and other corporate-wide initiatives.
  • Act as Transportation Coordinator in support of the Trip Reduction Program for Maricopa County, including driving participation in the annual survey and plan.

You have these skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

And these qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5+ years Human Resources experience with at least two years of employee relations. While 2 years of previous HR management experience is preferred, we would also consider a senior generalist with at least 2 years of employee relations experience.

  • Adept at Management development and coaching.
  • Able to manage difficult or emotional employee situations.
  • Focuses on resolving conflict, maintains confidentiality, listens to others without interrupting, keeps emotions under control.
  • Attention to detail, highly organized, with a discipline for follow-through.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Extra credit if you have:

  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred.
  • Transportation industry experience a plus.
  • Union experience a plus, but not required.
  • Minimal travel may be required.
