The Associate Medical Director:



  • Provides medical and technical direction. Ensures timely implementation of new technical procedures and provides scientific consultation to all medical/technical staff.
  • Forward thinking Medical Doctor able to evaluate donor charts for eligibility.
  • Leads team of Associate Medical Director(s) in policy development, record review tissue donor evaluation, evaluation of adverse reactions, recalls of tissue grafts, and (tissue related) family notification and counseling for abnormal test results.
  • Develops systems to create alignment to medical donor chart evaluation process, while ensuring the donor screening process is aligned to latest industry requirements & regulations.
  • Develops and regularly reviews criteria for tissue donor acceptance and deferral in accordance with Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), & American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) criteria, and assists Nursing Services in staff training in these areas.
  • Together with the Associate Medical Director(s), participates in appropriate community and professional organizations, and develops new programs and services to meet the needs of the community. Acts as a spokesperson for Solvita with the public, media and medical community.
  • Together with Associate Medical Director(s) evaluates and determines tissue donor suitability in accordance with Solvita, American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB), & FDA guidelines. Approves release of tissue donors for transplantation and research. Evaluates adverse reactions, medical complaints and recalls of tissue grafts. Assists Tissue Bank staff in donor acceptability training
  • Together with Associate Medical Director(s) develops medical policy for employee bloodborne pathogen exposures in accordance with Occupational Safety & Health Act (OSHA), CDC and AATB Standards and supervises employee health.
  • Together with Associate Medical Director(s) supervises and performs as needed, donor, patient, and tissue family notification and counseling for abnormal test results and/or important medical conditions identified during or after the donation process.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Medical Director(s) in education of staff, the public, area physicians, medical students and allied personnel, including specialized studies and collaborative research.
  • Participates in strategic planning, budget development, program and policy development, facilities planning, and quality assurance activities and all other Executive Staff functions as time allows.
  • Together with Associate Medical Director(s) reviews and approves reference laboratory workups and reports.
  • Evaluates notifications from other entities of issues that could affect donor eligibility after initial review of the donor was judged as eligible for graft production. (Examples: Late arriving medical or personal information, adverse events experienced by recipients of other tissue and/or organs, or notification that other entities review established that the donor was not eligible for donation at that entity).
  • Participates in Non-conformance review board to provide medical perspective on any possible product impact because of deviations.
  • Consults with Quality Review, processing personnel, and procurement staff when requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:



  • Board eligible Medical Doctor.
  • Must be able to meet the required physical demands with or without reasonable accommodation.



Desired Qualifications:



  • One year experience in Tissue Banking preferred.
  • Eligible for licensure in the state of Ohio.
