Transportation is responsible for providing safe, efficient and dependable transportation to commuters on all Metra-operated lines: Milwaukee North and West, Rock Island, Metra Electric, SouthWest Service, North Central Service and Heritage Corridor and those lines operating under purchase of service agreements: BNSF and Union Pacific. In addition to all employees directly involved in providing train service, the Transportation Department also oversees the Dispatching Office and Crew Management Center.

Reporting directly to the Manager, Crew Dispatching, this position is responsible for assisting in the overall supervision of the Crew Management Center.

As a partially excepted position, candidates interview for this position and apply through Metra's job application website. Primary duties will include filling all short vacancies in the district (CCF), train and assist regular callers to fill train, engine, and clerical assignments in accordance with the separate labor agreements. Keep all qualification and overtime seniority lists updated. Handles various duties relating to different crafts, such as researching time claims, handling T&E interdistrict seniority moves, vacation changes, etc. Works with The Human Resources, Medical Department, and District offices to document and monitor medical-leaves, FMLA, and other related statuses and exceptions to attendance. Coordinates all required training classes for all crafts. Performs all other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Note: In the application of Rule 12, the Chief Crew Clerk will be the first source of supply for Crew Clerk short vacancies on straight time basis prior to the provisions of Rule 13 and 14.

This is a Union position. Starting pay rates may vary based on entry rates in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Requirements

Applicants must meet each of the underlined minimum acceptable requirements to be considered for the position. The remaining requirements will be determined in the interview process. It is desired, but not required, that applicants meet the preferred qualifications as well. It is the applicant's responsibility to be certain that all information to be used in establishing qualifications file or included with the application and in either case, properly documented. Information included in an employee personnel file will be reviewed to determine minimum qualification sufficiency. Also, information on file may be considered a factor In the final selection process. Employees applying for certain job opportunities within the Metra system will be subject to a verification of a valid driver's license and criminal background investigation and a supplementary physical examination if applicable.

  1. Must have a minimum one (1) year Crew Caller experience.
  2. Must be available to work flexible hours with unassigned rest days.
  3. Must be familiar with UTU, BLE, TCIU, and ATDA labor agreements.
  4. Must have strong and effective oral and written communication skills, and analytical and organizational skills.
  5. Must be able and comfortable with MS Office products, including MS Outlook, MS Word, and MS Excel as well as DIVA Crew Calling system.
  6. Must be reliable and experienced in handling a variety of duties interchangeably.
  7. Must have strong interpersonal skills in dealing with all levels of management, employees, external groups and/or organizations.
  8. Must be able to work with sensitive information while maintaining strict confidentiality.

Preferences:

  1. Prior Supervisory and/or Leadership skills preferred.
