Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned) Supports Calpine's natural gas physical trading and risk management activity. Responsible for trading desk operations. Transacts for short-term and intermediate commodity trading transactions. Specializes in the 30-day spot market. Uses futures and other financial tools as a service for customers and for the internal hedging of deals. Has enough knowledge of gas control, capacity release markets, storage, and pipeline transportation to play a major role in daily sourcing optimization. Also involved in position management, position reconciliation, project-oriented work and deal analysis. For those with emphasis on analytics, assists with developing trading strategies based on fundamental analysis of the market. Job Scope & Technical Excellence Solid, working knowledge of the natural gas market, gas scheduling, pipeline transportation, capacity release markets, storage, and financial derivatives. Experienced professional with full understanding of job, company and industry practices. While the focus of this job is on trading, may also be required to perform financial analysis duties. Performs in fully functioning capacity, equivalent to a journey level contributor. Solves operational problems and associated technical issues; modifies existing tools, techniques or processes. Work Complexity & Independent Judgment Works on problems of moderate complexity. Self-Management & Leadership Little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments. May be designated project or technical lead for an ongoing process or short-term project within own department. Communication & Influence Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instruction and reporting results. Education & Experience Minimum 60 semester hours of college coursework, with an emphasis in Business, Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Accounting, Economics or equivalent; prefer Bachelor's Degree. Journey - level; typically requires 3+ years experience including working knowledge of trading tools and indices, marginal and average pricing and generation commitment techniques.
