The New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (
NJAES) is an integral component of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. The experiment station provides a diverse range of research, extension, and education programs that serve the people of New Jersey and the urban, suburban, and rural communities in which they live. Through its Cooperative Extension
offices in all 21 New Jersey counties, dedicated 4-H agents, Extension specialists, Family & Community Health Sciences educators, and Agriculture and Natural Resources agents work to serve New Jersey residents in every area of the state. In addition, off-campus field stations and farms focus on research ranging from support for fisheries, agriculture and allied businesses to support for youth and teens, while several
centers and institutes on the George H. Cook Campus at Rutgers-New Brunswick engage in world-class research to provide solutions for a range of issues faced by New Jersey residents. |

III for the
NJAES Horticulture
III department.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Supervises the daily tasks and duties involved in the operation of a New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES) Horticulture Farm 1 and 3.
- Assists in the operation's long-range planning.
- Interacts with and provides technical assistance to faculty project leaders as it relates to the successful implementation of their research programs.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Two (2) years of relevant experience.

Certifications/Licenses |
- Valid New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Commercial Pesticide Applicators license (category 1A).
- Valid NJ driver's license required.
- Must pass the University's defensive driving course within three months of hire.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Demonstrated experience with the establishment and maintenance of experiments.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel) and web-based applications.
- Effective communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Five (5) years of experience in a greenhouse.
- Two years' experience of staff supervision/management of farm/greenhouse personnel.
- Research farm/greenhouse experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of NJDEP regulations that affect farm operations.
- Excellent people skills with attention to detail and accuracy required for supervision of farm staff.
- Extensive knowledge of pesticides, fertilizers, soil amendments and greenhouse operations.
NJDEP certification for worker protection standard training.

Equipment Utilized |
- Computers and associated software including word processing, spreadsheet and web-based applications.
- Wide variety of farm/agricultural equipment including, but not limited to, tractors, mowers, irrigation systems, pesticide sprayers, climate control software, electronic test equipment for troubleshooting and greenhouse equipment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- Must be able to work in the hot humid conditions of field plots and greenhouses.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must be able to climb and work on a ladder.
- Must be able to walk the distances between greenhouses for work and inspection.
