Overview

We are looking for a talented Release Engineer to join our product development team for a software product tailored to the utility industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in developing software and integrated solutions. The Release Engineer is a specialized professional who plays a crucial role in the software development lifecycle, focusing on the management, coordination, and delivery of software releases. You act as a gatekeeper, ensuring that code transitions smoothly from development to production environments, while maintaining the integrity and reliability of the product. Release Engineers work at the intersection of development, operations, and quality assurance, employing automation tools and methodologies to streamline the release process. Your expertise contributes to minimizing downtime and accelerating the deployment of new features, ultimately driving the success of software products in a fast-paced, technology-driven landscape. The Release Engineer will work closely with both onshore and offshore teams, requiring excellent communication and collaboration skills.


Responsibilities

  • Manage source code repositories and ensuring adherence to version control best practices.
  • Automate the build, test, and deployment processes to enable continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD).
  • Design and implement release pipelines to ensure smooth and reliable software rollouts.
  • Collaborate with development, QA, and operations teams to coordinate release schedules and dependencies.
  • Monitor the release process and resolve any issues that arise during build, test, or deployment phases.
  • Develop and maintain release processes, including automation, deployment scripts, and configuration management.
  • Ensure that release deliverables are compliant with quality assurance standards and meet customer expectations.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot deployment issues, providing support to development and operations teams as needed.
  • Maintain release documentation, including release notes, deployment guides, and rollback plans.
  • Develop and enforce policies for hotfixes and emergency releases.
  • Track and report on release metrics to assess performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities within the release management process.
  • Communicate across teams and stakeholders to keep everyone informed about release statuses and timelines.
  • Manage environment configurations, including deployment and rollback procedures for multiple environments.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and security best practices during the release process.
  • Participate in post-release reviews to identify and address any issues or opportunities for improvement.
  • Stay current with the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies to continuously refine and improve the release process.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications are those an applicant must possess to be considered a candidate for the position.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in release management, DevOps, or a related role.
  • Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies, specifically Scrum.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation tools (e.g. Jenkins, Git, Bash), preferably Python or PowerShell.
  • Experience working with offshore and onshore development teams.
  • Expertise in use of tools such as Git/Bitbucket for versioning and Jira for issue-tracking.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS (preferred) and/or Azure.
  • Experience with containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Track record of delivering high-quality release solutions that meet application requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Capable of maintaining a high energy level to handle a dynamic, fast-paced workload.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications are not required for an applicant to be considered a candidate for the position.

  • Familiarity with the Energy Efficiency Domain or utility industry is a plus.
  • Familiarity with modern DevOps practices and tools.
  • Relevant Agile or Scrum certifications.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
