JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Lehigh Valley invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Biology. The position is full-time, 36-week, tenure-track appointment to begin August 2025.

Responsibilities for the position will include but not be limited to:

  • Teach nine contact hours per semester, which could include General Biology lectures and labs, Microbiology lectures and labs, Anatomy and Physiology lectures and labs, and/or upper-level courses in the candidate's field of study including but not limited to microbial ecology, cell biology, developmental biology, and infectious diseases.

  • Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is expected

  • Teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening, night and/or weekend classes as needed

  • Establish a research program involving undergraduates where you publish in referred journals and present at regional, national and/or international conferences

  • Academic advising of students

  • Participate in campus, college, university, and professional service activities

A Ph.D. in Biology or closely related field is required to be appointed as an Assistant Professor; ABD will be considered but the degree must be completed by December 2025. Prior college-level teaching experience required. Experience working with undergraduates is preferred. Interest in active and collaborative learning is an advantage. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important.
