POSITION

Allspring is seeking an onsite database engineering and operations manager to provide strategic and tactical leadership for our cloud based (AWS, Azure & OCI) database service offering. Our database offerings include SQL*Server and Oracle delivered both as RDS and server-based installs. This is a hands-on leadership role managing a team of two Database Administrators and enabling Service Desk and NOC analysts to perform repeatable database operations tasks, perform basic database incident resolution and fulfill basic database service requests.

We currently operate in a hybrid working model, whereby you will be required to work in-office 3 days a week.

RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Build an internal operating plan for the year, including all tooling and people requirements, force ranked, at all times.
  • Track and maintain quantities and costs of tools, instances, licenses, etc appropriate for the Allspring database estate.
  • Meet your budget expectations.
  • Create and maintain architectural diagram(s) of the database infrastructure.
  • Define and maintain database service standards.
  • Define and maintain database service catalogue.
  • Create, document, and maintain database strategic vision and tactical plans to achieve them.
  • Create and maintain monitoring and alerts across the database estate.

    • Dashboard(s) demonstrating database health and drill down to diagnose flagged issues.
    • Define and implement warning and alert thresholds as needed across your estate.
    • Configure and maintain OpsGenie to create cases and send alerts based on thresholds.


  • Identify and recommend opportunities to reduce cost, improve reliability, improve security, reduce risk, automate, etc across the database infrastructure. Develop and execute plans to achieve approved recommendations.
  • Resolve database incidents and fulfill service requests according to SLAs.
  • Create and maintain operational procedures to run the database infrastructure. Ensure they are followed.
  • Escalate operational, budgetary and initiative delivery issues in a timely manner.
  • Develop and maintain service delivery metrics (e.g. production database uptime, volume of databases across the estate, number of cases resolved, etc.).
  • Report status of initiatives to management and through Weekly Business Reviews.
  • Ensure primary and secondary on call schedules are maintained.
  • Ensure you have the right people in the right seats.

    • Create an organization structure that includes the skills and capabilities to run the database infrastructure.
    • Hire and develop teams to meet the needs of the database infrastructure and your ability to serve the firm.
    • Assign tasks, manage expectations and manage performance of your team.
    • Understand team members' career goals. To the extent possible, help them attain their goals.


  • Create and maintain work plans for your team.

    • Time spent running versus improving the database estate versus growing the business.
    • Who is working on which initiatives. Status of initiatives. Leverage Project Management as appropriate.


  • Ensure all databases comply with Allspring policies, and you can provide evidence of compliance.
  • Provide audit teams with evidence of compliance as requested in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all team members complete training and compliance in a timely manner.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • 5+ years proven success leading database teams in a global environment.
  • 3+ years of experience as a trading or portfolio management database administrator or experience in trading, trade support, or compliance.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or equivalent.
  • Ability to prioritize, execute, and problem solve in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • 2+ years' experience in cloud based (AWS, Azure & OCI) databases.
  • 2+ years' experience with SQL*Server & Oracle.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools.
  • Ability to support multiple internal clients.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
