Hi, I'm Ryan, looking for a Summer 2025 Engineering Intern.

Who Am I?

I am the leader of highly collaborative team that is focused on continuous improvement for our manufacturing process. We have a small, close-knit team that works very well together.

What Do We Do?

Business Unit: Strip & Hot Finish

We are a strip rolling facility that produces specialty alloys for the aerospace, automotive, industrial, medical, energy and consumer markets. Our products go into everything from smartphone components, to high temperature automotive gaskets, to golf clubs, to aerospace power generation.

Ongoing Projects

Examples of our current projects are:
1) Improvements to machine guarding for enhanced employee safety
2) Design, fabrication oversight, installation and commissioning of a new multi-million dollar slitter
3) Improvements to sensors and control systems on our bright annealing furnaces
4) Mechanical design projects to reduce cobble rates on our hot rolling mill

Your Role as an Intern

You will be a part of a dynamic team, supporting the following tasks:

  • Design of mechanical components and oversight of their fabrication and installation. Making changes and/or improvements to machine control code.
  • Specific projects will be related to efforts such as: design of machine guarding components for employee safety, design of tooling and fixturing for new multi-million dollar slitter project, evaluation of our dewpoint monitoring systems for bright hydrogen annealing (including making recommendations for improvements, modifications, or replacements), redesign of Steckel Mill furnace guide plates, work on defect detection and condition monitoring systems. etc.

What Do We Require?

You must be:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program majoring in Electromechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, may consider other engineering students if they have experience using technical drawing software
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Willing and able to work on-site at our Reading, PA location.
  • Applicants MUST be US Citizens or Green Card Holders due to Carpenter's government contracts.

Pay Range

Hourly rates are based on: 1 - Program of study; 2 - Degree type (i.e., Bachelor's); 3 - Progression in degree (i.e., 1st year, 2nd year, etc.). The range for this position is $21.00 - $25.00 per hour.

Commuting/Housing Assistance (If Eligible)

Interns who must commute to work from outside the immediate Reading, PA area (over 50 miles one-way), will be paid a one-time lump sum payment of $2,400 (less applicable taxes) as excessive commute allowance. Interns who choose to temporarily relocate from outside the immediate Reading, PA area (moving over 50 miles one-way), will be paid a one-time lump sum payment of $4,800 (less applicable taxes) as a housing allowance. If applicable, this payment would be made during the first payroll cycle, which would be three or four weeks following the internship start date.
