Position Purpose:

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Electromagnetic Systems Engineer to contribute to the research, development, and testing of advanced security systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge in electromagnetic theory, spectroscopy, and material analysis, as well as a proven ability to lead independent research projects. This role involves testing and evaluating cutting-edge explosives detection systems and contributing to advancements in national security technologies

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Applies expertise in electromagnetic theory and scattering to the design and evaluation of advanced detection systems
  • Conducts dielectric measurements and modeling using resonant, free-space, loaded waveguide, and probe measurement techniques
  • Uses spectroscopy methods, including Raman and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy, for system analysis and material characterization
  • Leverages knowledge of millimeter-wave (MMW) imaging and material analysis to advance system capabilities
  • Develops and implements complex models and algorithms to improve system performance
  • Executes and documents various testing and analysis activities associated with the development of security-related systems
  • Evaluates commercial and prototype explosives detection systems
  • Performs parametric testing to assess detection limits, sensitivity, selectivity, and other performance metrics
  • Conducts literature reviews to assess the current state of the art and to inform research program strategies
  • Writes, reviews, and refines test plans, procedures, and comprehensive project documentation, including analysis reports and final deliverables
  • Independently plans, executes, and documents research and development projects with minimal supervision



Required KSA's



  • Advanced knowledge of electromagnetic theory, dielectric measurements, and material analysis
  • Proficiency in spectroscopy techniques, including Raman and FTIR Spectroscopy
  • Experience with millimeter-wave imaging technologies and material analysis applications
  • Strong background in modeling and algorithm development
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and test explosives detection systems, including parametric performance analysis
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills



Education/Experience:

A bachelor's degree in a science field (i.e., physics, chemistry) from an accredited college or university with at least 12 years of experience in experimental or applied science (physics, chemistry, or related) OR a master's degree in a science field (i.e., physics, chemistry) from an accredited college or university with at least 6 years of experience as described above OR a Ph.D. in a natural science (e.g., physics, chemistry, biology) from an accredited college or university. Shall have a minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience.

Clearance:

The ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret clearance and Department of Homeland Security Fitness is required for this position.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervision of the technical activities performed by the more junior staff members assigned to the project is required for this position.

Working Conditions/Equipment:

The incumbent professional is expected to be present at the work site and/or be available during regular business hours. He/she should also generally be available via e-mail or phone during non-business hours as needed to address critical issues or emergencies.
