At Broadwind Heavy Fabrications we THINK BIG! We work on large scale, heavy weldments for several industries including large scale cranes, mining equipment, and wind towers. We currently have an opening for a second shift Production Supervisor in our Manitowoc, WI plant. This role does not open often! We are particularly looking for someone with knowledge and experience in the area of machining and heavy weldments. The primary responsibility of the Production Supervisor is to manage and coordinate the activities of the production teams including the working Leads, to ensure we meet customer specifications in terms of both timelines and quality.


  • Lead the production teams focusing on quality leadership to reach desired outcomes

    • Organize resources and schedule personnel
    • Assign duties focused on meeting objectives
    • Monitor and control production output using various on-line resources
    • Communicate through regular team/individual meetings
    • Provide goals and vision to team members in the specific function
    • Initiate and motivate people to achieve work/production goals

  • Lead, guide and train employees on policies, safety related matters and company objectives
  • Supervise onboarding and new employee training process for job specific procedures

    • Insure training plans are set-up and followed for all new hires
    • Participate in the on-boarding process
    • Establish and follow through on new hire "touch points" to assure a positive outcome
    • Manage reporting/updating of applicable skills matrix

  • Oversee and support the working leads ensuring we meet production goals and customer expectations
  • Manage team performance by providing regular feedback to individuals/leaders; complete evaluations and handle performance concerns as needed; initiate improvement plans if required; establish plans for development of strong performers
  • Analyze and resolve production problems; partner with Senior Leads and Task Leaders to determine root cause and develop solutions
  • Review employee time and attendance to insure correct reporting; manage occurrence concerns within your teams
  • Balance schedules for time off requests and OT needs; manage time off requests within the system
  • Manage data and metrics reporting; understand production schedule and system reporting; prepare reports as required
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities between shifts and individual departments; communicates to ensure consistency between shifts
  • Work with Inventory/Supply Chain to be assured needed parts/supplies are available; assist in managing parts/supply issues
  • Work with the Quality team to promote and ensure all individual customer requirements are being met
  • Communicate with customer reps and liaisons as needed/required to understand and ensure we are meeting contracted requirements
  • Initiate administrative activities related to routine staff management (EAFs, disciplinary forms, documentation, etc.)
  • Partner with others within the organization (i.e. leaders, planning and maintenance) to support company goals; coordinate activities between shifts and individual departments
  • Manage staffing needs; initiate hiring requisition & approval; partner with HR to Interview & select potential leaders and team members
  • Support and drive continuous improvement proposals and projects; Support and attend skill and leadership programs for skill improvement and self-development.
  • Assure all safety procedures and practices are followed
  • Assist with other projects as needed

Academic/Experience/Credentials/Certifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Manufacturing, Engineering or related field desired
  • Associate's degree or other classes may be considered in combination with applicable experience
  • 5+ yrs. in a manufacturing/production environment required
  • 3+ yrs. in direct leadership of a full team/function
  • Experience with specific related skills based on function is highly desirable (paint or coatings, heavy fabrication, welding, assembly or production environments)
  • Certifications related to coatings/paint are highly desirable
  • Experience in leading across a multi-shift manufacturing setting is desired
  • Valid driver's license with proof of insurance required
  • Travel requirements - up to 10%


Specialized Skills/Knowledge/Ability


  • Ability to maintain excellent working relationships across shifts and functions
  • Able to flex schedule in order to touch base with team members across shifts if needed
  • Must be comfortable using/accessing various software systems, such as those used to manage the business as well as Word and Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact with people at all levels (internal and external)
  • Knowledge and understanding of Lean or other continuous improvement theories and methods is desired
  • Ability to mentor and lead team to successful outcomes
  • Highly motivated, self-starter capable of working and delivering results on own initiative
