This job manages major and minor projects through each phase including concept, bidding, planning, design, construction, commissioning, and licensing to ensure compliance with AIA Healthcare Facilities Guidelines, NFPA, CMS, The Joint Commission, and state and local codes. The projects are major structural renovations as well as new construction projects. Provides guidance in the daily activities of the Plant Operations/Security Department to provide services, repair, and maintenance necessary to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the hospital and clinic facilities.

Education

Required -Bachelor's degree

Preferred -Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field

Work Experience

Required -5 years of progressive experience in maintenance management and new construction including5 years of experience in hospital engineering and construction experience including both major structural renovations involving HVAC, electrical, and plumbing, as well as major new construction projects of mid to large size buildings.

Certifications

Preferred-Current Certification/License in one or more of these areas: control systems, painting, plumbing, fire and smoke detection systems, water softeners, preventative maintenance, and lock systems .

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Must have computer skills and be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to the role.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
  • Knowledge of hospital construction requirements.
  • Detailed knowledge of hospital construction requirements.
  • Good knowledge of all phases of hospital equipment such as boilers, air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical system, compressed air systems, vacuum system.
  • General knowledge of all tools and equipment used in the operation of the hospital and plant, including the ability to instruct personnel on the safety and use of such tools and equipment.
  • Financial acumen is necessary to prepare departmental budgets and estimated for new construction or repairs and maintenance.
  • Skills to read and understand detailed blueprints and specifications of new construction, installation, and maintenance of equipment.

Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.

Must be able to stoop, bend, reach and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity.
Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time.

Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue and as part of their employment, incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid.

There is no occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases.

Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
