Summary

Manages the LVHN Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program in support of the professional practice model of nursing practice at LVHN. Holds responsibility for the assessment of orientation and training program needs, development, and execution of program objectives, as well as evaluation and ongoing improvement of a competency based orientation for the Nurse Resident. Ensures ACCN accreditation standards are continuously met, substantive changes are submitted to ACCN, and other accreditation expectations (including writing self-story etc.) are completed.

Job Duties

  • Refines and maintains the Nurse Residency Program to meet educational support needs of Patient Care Services with specific focus on newly licensed RNs at LVHN.
  • Oversees implementation of the Nurse Residency Program curriculum, in collaboration with Professional Development team, Patient Care Services, and the Nurse Residency Advisory Board with input from nursing leadership.
  • Functions as a liaison between disciplines and departments in ensuring a smoothly coordinated residency program including facilitating meetings, identifying and responding to daily problems, and communicating and collaborating with many members of the care team.
  • Regularly reviews Nurse Residency data and program outcomes to identify areas for improvement.
  • Nurtures the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program philosophy, policy, and objectives for NRs to facilitate their smooth transition into the LVHN model of professional nursing practice.
  • Selects varied teaching strategies, as appropriate, for classroom and clinical experience. Develops innovative models of instruction to support clinical learning in seminars.
  • Guides the Tales from the bedside and EBP facilitators in working within the Vizient/AACN curriculum, seminar focus, and activities to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Acts in a leadership role for the NRP, articulating program needs, and reporting program issues to the Director of Education Services.
  • Participates in Vizient/AACN Residency Program conference calls, seminars, advisory, and work groups to create a professional network; shares expertise and experiences and further develops the residency program.
  • Collaborates and develops policies and procedures pertinent to the program.
  • Promotes and cultivates positive relationships with academic programs to foster a positive image with the LVHN residency program.
  • Oversees Nurse Residency Program accreditation process through ACCN. Provides substantial changes to ACCN, writes progress reports and self-study for ACCN.
  • Utilizes national data from Vizient/AACN and the LVHN NRP outcomes and findings for continued improvement.
  • Establishes and maintains tracking methods to ensure competencies, orientation, surveys, and other program components are completed within identified timeframes.
  • Incorporates objective assessment of classroom and clinical performance into the evaluation framework. Applies measurement instruments and statistical analysis when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree Nursing, Nursing Education, or in a Healthcare related field.
  • 3 years Education program design and evaluation. Knowledge and experience in adult education principles.
  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite to include MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive issues.
  • Ability to work with internal and external individuals from different disciplines and different levels of training.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in dynamic environment.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
  • RN - Licensed Registered Nurse_PA - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire

Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 years Clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting. and
  • 3 years Orientation and education of staff in a clinical setting.

Physical Demands

Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
