Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Finance Project Manager. This position is responsible for managing process improvements/standardization, process optimization, exploring and utilizing generative AI, leveraging data visualization tools, supporting business transformations within Sponsored Research Operations (SRO). This role will be instrumental in ensuring that transformation projects are executed successfully, delivering value, and aligning with the institutions strategic objectives. This role requires strategic thinking, developing creative solutions, data modeling, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. This position also involves leveraging technology and data-driven insights to improve efficiency, compliance, and decision-making within the sponsored research domain.

This role requires a blend of technical skills (such as proficiency in Tableau, Excel, and data analysis), and domain knowledge in Research Administration.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Deep understanding of pre-award/post-award processes, as well as compliance functions in Sponsored Research to identify automation opportunities and lead process improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate within SRO as well as academic departments to understand their data needs, and the gaps that currently exist, work together on solutions to bridge the gap, and streamline the process.
  • Use Tableau to create and maintain dashboards and reports for tracking and reporting on day-to-day operations related to sponsored research. This includes visualizing data in a way that is understandable and actionable for stakeholders.
  • Designing and developing customized Excel templates with advanced functions and formulas to automate repetitive tasks, improve data accuracy, and reduce redundant tasks.
  • Identifying opportunities for AI integration in sponsored research operations to enhance data analysis and automate mundane tasks.
  • Providing training and support to staff and stakeholders in utilizing AI and data visualization tools.
  • Use data and metrics to assess the progress and impact of transformation initiatives.
  • Analyze metrics to identify areas for improvement and drive strategic decision-making.
  • Analyze large datasets to provide actionable insights and support strategic decision-making.
  • Analyze and redesign existing processes within the sponsored research domain to improve efficiency, compliance, and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with IT and data science teams to implement AI solutions.
  • Planning, Organizing, Collaborating and Decision Making: Performs within plan; established priorities and across multiple functional areas. Exercises initiative and sound judgment in performance. Escalates issues appropriately. Contributes meaningfully to developing solutions and independently completes assigned work in a timely manner. Action-oriented and eager to explore new opportunities and embrace touch challenges with sense of urgency.
  • Monitoring, Quality Control, Reporting and Record Keeping: Create organized, thoughtful and meaningful financial analysis to the specific audiences within the organization. Establish internal controls across the teams by developing templates using advanced excel formulas/macros to ensure high quality financial analysis and reporting. Demonstrate creative thinking, initiative for taking on new responsibilities as needed.
  • Process improvement: Practices continuous self-improvement and develop other teams. Participate in the design and implementation of new operating processes and procedures as necessary to drive efficiency across all the teams. Manages and resolves process and system related issues by working closely with team members, identifying root cause and resolving issues in a timely manner.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with staff, peers, senior management and departments. Collaborate and communicate in a timely manner across the teams /departments. Resolve billing related sponsor and department concerns and identify resolutions in a timely manner so as to not jeopardize loss of payment, this includes following up on any outstanding balance.
  • Other key competencies: Understands and adheres to the principles of Research Administration and Compliance. Follows NYU Langone Health Policies and procedures. Exercises good judgement and effectively prioritizes work. Ability to lead and develop teams. Serves as a role model and resource to entry and mid-level team members. Accountable, collegial and ethical.

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have a Bachelor's degree in business, data science, or a related field. 3-5 years of experience in Sponsored Research Administration, including pre and post-award processes, and compliance.
Experience with Enterprise Systems. Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft tools, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree is preferred. Experience with PeopleSoft or Research Navigator preferred. Experience in tools such as ClickUp and Qualtrics preferred.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $97,589.96 - $114,500.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
