The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

At WGU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their position, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is:

Pay Range: $66,300.00 - $99,500.00

Job Description

What You'll Do:

The Learning Experience Designer, Internal is a creative, solution focused, team player who delivers learning experiences that inspire and develop employees. This individual partners with others in People Development and across the University who are passionate about developing learning solutions that help the university achieve its mission and strategic goals. This individual applies tested theories, practices and methods to their work creating deliverables that are inclusively designed, aligned to outcomes, effective, and efficient. Success in this position requires agile and innovative thinking, the ability to embrace change, and a desire to continuously learn and develop. Successful candidates often have experience with large-scale institutional learning, including job specific and technical topics.

Main Responsibilities Include:

  • Works collaboratively and cross-functionally with business leaders and across departments to support operational and organizational initiatives through learning design that identifies the learning need, implements appropriate learning solutions, and supports effective change management.

  • Communicates ADDIE informed design process, presents design solutions, cultivates consensus and collective decision-making to define project deliverables.

  • Creates project deliverables aligned to quality standards and learning outcomes, which may include job aids, scenario-based learning, eLearning or hybrid learning, assessments, and simulations.

  • Manages learning design projects by establishing project roles and timelines, facilitating project meetings and communication with stakeholders, identifying milestones, deliverables, and dependencies, mitigating project risks, and ensuring quality learning products are ready for project team review.

  • Adapts project management strategies to client and working with more complex clients and projects, with support from leader as needed.

  • Provides accurate time estimates for deliverables and effectively allocates time to achieving goals. Organizes and plans work on multiple projects every two weeks. Consults with leader on prioritization or time allocation when appropriate.

  • Identifies and builds ways of measuring learning effectiveness (survey, pilot, learning time, assessment effectiveness; analyze data sources; presents results and recommendations for improvements, and implement revisions).

  • Coordinates a comprehensive curriculum review process through conducting data analysis, including recommendations for strategic improvements, and implementing revisions to learning materials.

  • Conducts reviews to ensure learning experiences meet standards of quality.

  • Performs job analysis using interviews with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and job descriptions. Develops comprehensive understanding of a role including measures of success, skills, behaviors, and knowledge necessary to perform. Utilizes role knowledge to identify and solve for gaps in existing curricula supporting a role.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skill, Abilities You'll Need to Be Successful:

  • Ability to utilize theories and best practices to support achievement of adult learning outcomes: competency based educational strategies, instructional design, assessment methodologies, inclusive design for diverse learners, and eLearning design.

  • Advanced written communication skills including technical writing, editing, and adapting to needs of the target audience.

  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, including the ability to work cross-functionally with a variety of stakeholders and communicate persuasively.

  • Ability to form positive working relationships and become a trusted team member.

  • Continuously seeks improvement by actively listening to problem solve; seeking and applying constructive feedback; and providing constructive feedback to others.

  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision including time management, prioritization, and problem solving.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects while meeting deadlines and quality standards.

  • Advanced skills in critical thinking, analysis, research, and synthesis of data to make informed decisions.

  • Skilled with project management, agile project management experience preferred.

  • Skilled with office productivity software, multimedia software, and eLearning software.

  • Skilled with using LMS functionality to support learning design, troubleshoot basic questions, and utilize reporting to study learning effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master's degree in instructional design, learning experience design, educational technology, or comparable degree.

Experience:

  • 3 or more years of experience with instructional/learning experience design.

  • Potential candidates must demonstrate required skills via review of a portfolio and work sample.

Experience in lieu of education:

  • An equivalent combination of training, experience, credentials, or accomplishments demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of this job may substitute for education degree requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education or corporate learning

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Position & Application Details
