Hearth & Home Technologies, the industry leader in fireplace and stove design and manufacturing, is in search of a Product Development Engineer Intern to join our business division at Outdoor GreatRoom's operation's team in Lakeville, MN! Our internship will run for approximately 12 weeks during the summer of 2025.
Each summer, 15 to 20 students from a variety of majors, join the HHT family for a summer focused on hands on learning, professional development, and networking. This is a paid internship at $24.00 per hour.
As a Product Development Engineer Intern with Outdoor GreatRoom, you join a fast-paced operations team working alongside many leaders and other experienced engineers who have a vision and passion for implementing solutions and exceeding our customers' expectations. While no day will be the same, you can expect to put the knowledge you have gained in the classroom to use every day in a variety of experiences.
From working on the development and implementation of production and processing methods to controls for quality standards, our engineering interns are challenged and charged with continually seeking better ways of conducting business: How can this be improved?
Each summer HHT interns receive a project (or two!) for the summer and work directly with a mentor for technical and professional guidance. Throughout the summer, professional development sessions are provided for interns including opportunities to learn from and network with senior leadership.
Project Focus:
The intern will be involved in key projects aimed at enhancing our fire tables and supporting manufacturing processes. This will include:
Build and Test Prototypes:Collaborate with engineers to assemble prototype fire tables and test their performance, fit/feel/finish, and DFM/DFA.
3-D CAD & Drawings:Assisting as a CAD Designer to prepare engineering documents for new products. This involves collaborating with production and engineering to create part and assembly models and drawings.
Bills of Materials:Collaborate with engineers to create Bills of Materials for our Enterprise Resource Planning system.
Technical Writing:Typing and editing technical content for product installation manuals, owner's manuals, and user guides.
Qualifications needed for this position (specific degree, coursework, technical skills)
  • A sophomore or junior pursuing a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or design.
  • PreferCREO & WINDCHILL coursework and experience, Solid Works accepted.
  • Familiarity with desktop publishing software, including but not limited to, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat Professional, and Photoshop.
