Senior Corporate Counsel

Fike Corporation, a rapidly growing international manufacturer of pressure relief, explosion protection, fire suppression and detection equipment, has an opportunity for a Senior Corporate Counsel position. Fike is a privately held business located in Blue Springs, MO with over 400 employees locally & over 1,200 employees worldwide.

Job Summary:

Provides legal counsel to all levels of management at the Corporation and its subsidiaries, manage the company's insurance claims, including property, casualty, liability, workers' compensation, and other insurance policies. Act as the key liaison between the company and outside counsel for litigation matters, including personal injury, product liability, contract disputes, and other claims. Ensure compliance and protect against legal liability. Holds legal expertise in Employment law, Personnel law, EEOC, FLSA, contract law and corporate laws. Provides leadership and complex legal analysis and actions.

Primary Responsibilities:


  1. Provides advice on legal issues regarding all dispute resolution, litigation, product and services liability matters to all levels of management of the parent Corporation, US and international subsidiaries.
  2. Coordinates and monitors insurance adjusters and outside legal counsel to defend claims against the company.
  3. Monitor the progress of litigation cases and ensure alignment with the company's strategic objectives and legal budget.
  4. Conducts research, interviews witnesses and other details in preparation for litigation and trial proceedings.
  5. Reviews and interprets legislation regarding employment law and commercial litigation.
  6. Identifies potential legal issues related to business practices and policies and advises management.
  7. Advises the Company's Commercial Representatives, Human Resources and Senior Management on employee/labor law, employee relations and litigation, employment contracts and non-compete agreements, compensation and benefit plan issues, FLSA matters and equal employment opportunity issues. Coordinates and manages outside defense counsel on EEOC, ADEA, and ADA matters brought against the company, and responds to administrative requests, drafts and/or reviews settlement and release from liability agreements.
  8. Assures that Human Resource policies comply with legal requirements.
  9. From time to time, gathers evidence to assist outside counsel in formulating defenses or initiating legal action on issues regarding commercial transactions, marketing or the protecting the company's proprietary information and intellectual property rights.
  10. Confers with and manages outside legal counsel with a specialty in areas of the law to establish and verify the basis for legal proceedings.
  11. Drafts and reviews a wide range of legal documents, including employment agreements (U.S./International), general business contracts, consulting agreements, risk management and insurance policies.

Performs related duties as assigned. Regular and consistent attendance is required.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the environment is general office work and the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, hear, see, sit and use hands. Travel domestically and internationally as required.

Job Qualifications:

Required: Juris Doctorate from accredited law school. Ten or more years of diverse legal services in a corporate environment. Ability to clearly translate into lay terms and effectively communicate the legal conditions, which affect business opportunities and problems. Membership in the state bar as an attorney qualified to practice law in the state of Missouri. Ability to use Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite software applications.

Preferred: Exposure to a manufacturing organization with multiple sites, domestic and international subsidiaries. Familiarity with contract lifecycle management ("CLM") software applications.
