Department Description

The Documents & Media (DM) department offers a broad range of services to UCSF faculty, staff and students. Major areas include, but are not limited to, graphic design, typesetting, photocopying, digital printing, variable data printing, digital file management, forms management, multimedia services and print brokering.

DM print production division averages up to 50 different jobs every working day. Each of the jobs is custom in that it may have a different set of technical specifications and customer requirements. Many of the jobs require multiple production processes including layout or typesetting, pre-press, press and bindery work and may require project management. Additionally, some jobs may require sending out all or part of the job to one of our SBE print partners. The cost of individual jobs can run from $5.00 to $100,000. Most of our customers possess very little technical knowledge so our department assumes the role of graphics expert and consultant to our clients, advising them of the most cost-effective methods for achieving their desired results.

DM handles a high volume of digital photocopying and bindery work in a rapid turnaround time, often completing over 100 jobs in one day. Jobs are black and white as well as color. Our main production plant is at the Mission Center Building (MCB), with our primary drop-in intake service centers being at Parnassus (Millberry Union) and Mission Bay (Mission Hall). DM also operates a Business Center at UC Law SF and the Moffitt Copy Center on the UC Berkeley campus.
