Job Overview

The Advanced Modality Student Technologist working under the supervision of an Advanced Modality Technologist, performs pediatric diagnostic imaging procedures according to defined standards and requirements for high quality imaging. Provides patient care while adhering to all quality and safety standards; and performs administrative duties including but not limited to scheduling appointments, patient instructions, and maintenance of records. This position is responsible for communicating regularly with patients, families, and all hospital and community caregivers while following department expectations for interactions with patients and families. This position is required to be on call depending on the position's location.

  • EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited radiography program
  • EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of x-ray experience
  • EQUIVALENCY: N/A
  • CERTIFICATION(S):
    • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists: Registered Radiologic Technologist ARRT(R) upon hire; and registry any one (1) of the following advanced modalities within one year of hire;
      • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists: Registered Computed Tomography Technologist ARRT(CT)
      • Registered Magnetic Resonance Technologist ARRT(MR)
    • American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.

Responsibilities

POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE

Provides patient care to all of these age groups:

  • Neonate- < 30 days
  • Infancy- > 30 days to 1 yr
  • Toddlers- > 1 yr to 3 yrs
  • Pre-schoolers- > 3 yrs to 5 yrs
  • School age-> 5yrs to 13 yrs
  • Adolescent- >13 yrs to 18 yrs
  • Adult- >18 yrs to 65 yrs

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

  1. Produces radiographic images, both fixed and portable, according to defined standards and requirements for high quality imaging while accurately demonstrating anatomy and pathology under the supervision of an Advanced Modality Technologist.
  2. May perform studies with indirect supervision of a Registered Advanced Modality Technologist who is on site and readily available once competency is obtained.
  3. Provides age-appropriate care and prepares patients for procedures.
  4. Provides clear and detailed information regarding the procedure and care to patients, families, coworkers and others.
  5. Demonstrates the ability to safely operate all imaging equipment and ancillary equipment under appropriate supervision.
  6. Demonstrates the ability to use Radiology Information System (RIS), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) as it pertains to modality specific functions and use.
  7. May start peripheral IV's and administer contrast once competency is achieved. Indirect supervision is required.
  8. CT Only- Demonstrates and utilizes principles of ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) and ensures proper radiation safety practices (if indicated).
  9. MR Only- MR Level 2 training required. Maintains MRI safety for anyone entering Zone III/IV
  10. MR Only- A MR registered technologist must sign off on all implants prior to imaging. Student technologists can NOT complete this task.
  11. Manages patient priority and act as first responder when needed.
  12. Follows all department policies, procedures and protocol.

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $59,514.35 to $89,271.53
Hourly Salary Range: $28.61 to $42.92
